Iron-catalyzed alkylation of internal olefins, that is, α-oxo ketene dithioacetals, was successfully realized by using styrenes as the alkylating reagents. Highly functionalized tetrasubstituted olefins were prepared in moderate to high yields.

A gold-catalyzed intramolecular coupling of diazo compounds to produce cyclic olefins has been well established. The medium and large sized membered olefins were obtained in moderate to good yields. Notably, the Z/E selectivity of the olefins highly depended on the ring size. Furthermore, this investigation indicated that the structure of the phosphorous ligand binding to the gold centre played...

Nickel-catalyzed intermolecular benzylation and heterobenzylation of unactivated alkenes to provide functionalized allylbenzene derivatives are described. A wide range of both the benzyl chloride and alkene coupling partners are tolerated. In contrast to analogous palladium-catalyzed variants of this process, all reactions described herein employ electronically unbiased aliphatic olefins (inclu...

The use of non-supported Fe nanoparticles in the hydrogenation of unsaturated C-C bonds is a green catalytic concept at the frontier between homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. Iron nanoparticles can be obtained by reducing Fe salts with strong reductants in various solvents. FeCl(3) reduced by 3 equivalents of EtMgCl forms an active catalyst for the hydrogenation of a range of olefins and...

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) was investigated as the initial oligomerization site for the envelope glycoproteins H and F of measles virus (MV), a clinically relevant member of the Paramyxoviridae family, and consequences of this interaction for viral replication were studied. Both proteins were tagged at their cytosolic tails with RRR and KKXX motifs, respectively, resulting in their efficien...

Delta-toxin produced by Clostridium perfringens types B and C is a β-pore-forming cytotoxin. Here, using site-directed mutagenesis, we identified the amino acid residues that contribute to delta-toxin oligomerization binding. We replaced Lys-43 Ser-109 located in β-sandwich domain Arg-200 rim domain. Substitution of alanine for caused reductions both cytotoxicity oligomerization. However, excha...

A two-dimensional nanolayered polyoxomolybdate, [4,4´-H2bipy] [Mo7O22].H2O (1), where 4,4´-bipy = 4,4´-bipyridine, was prepared and characterized by FT-IR and atomic absorption spectroscopies, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray single crystal and powder diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis. The catalytic performance of 1 was assessed in the epoxidation of some olefins em...

G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), which constitute the largest family of cell surface receptors, were originally thought to function as monomers, but are now recognized as being able to act in a wide range of oligomeric states and indeed, it is known that the oligomerization state of a GPCR can modulate its pharmacology and function. A number of experimental techniques have been devised to s...
