We present particle-based simulations and a continuum theory for steady rotating flocks formed by self-propelling particles (SPPs) in two-dimensional space. Our models include realistic but simple rules for the self-propelling, drag, and interparticle interactions. Among other coherent structures, in particle-based simulations we find steady rotating flocks when the velocity of the particles la...

Granulocytic Ehrlichia infection in sheep is common in Norway in areas with Ixodes ricinus. In this study, 2 sheep flocks that had been grazing on I. ricinus infested pastures the previous season, were blood sampled after being housed indoors for nearly 6 months during wintertime. Thirty animals from each flock were examined for granulocytic Ehrlichia infection in the peripheral blood by blood ...

Flock Fibers In article number 2100766 by Jingwei Xie and co-workers, a new technique for electrostatic flocking is used to create anisotropic structures surfaces regenerative medicine applications. Using this method, electrospun nanofiber mats, 3D-printed meshes, tubes are surface-coated with flock fibers. Such materials evaluated in vitro vivo show promise as tissue engineering scaffolds.

We extend some of the theory of flocks of a finite quadratic cone to the infinite case and give some examples. One of the results we prove is that a generalized quadrangle is coming from a flock if and only if all derivations of the flock are well defined.

There has been much research done on single-flock flocking Shaw (1975), Partridge (1984), Partridge (1982), Okubo (1986), Reynolds (1987), Vicsek et al. (1995), Toner & Tu (1998), Shimoyama et al. Campylobacter spp. have been isolated from live poultry, production environments, processing facilities, and raw poultry products. Environmental sampling in a poultry grow-out house, combined with carcass rinse sampling from the same flock, may provide a relative relationship between pre- and postharvest Campylobacter contamination. Air samples, fecal/litter samples, and feed/drink line samples...

Sheep production industries face the challenge of increasing farm and profit while reducing environmental impacts. Genetic selection using multi-trait breeding indices can be used to improve flock productivity, profitability, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensities (kg CO2-eq /kg product), however validation improved performance animals ranked higher on at a level is required. Phenotypic dat...

Knowledge of epidemiological mechanisms and parameters underlying scrapie transmission in sheep flocks remains very limited at present. Here we introduce a method for fitting stochastic transmission models to outbreak data to estimate bounds on key transmission parameters. We apply this method to data describing an outbreak of scrapie in a closed flock of Romanov sheep. The main findings are th...
