Stable-type chromosome aberrations that survive multiple generations of cell division include translocation and inversions. An efficient method to detect an inversion is multi-color banding fluorescent in situ hybridization (mBAND) which allows identification of both interand intra-chromosome aberrations simultaneously. Post irradiation, chromosome aberrations may also arise after multiple cell...

Chromosomal aberrations are associated with increased cancer risk in adults. Previously, we demonstrated that stable aberrations involving chromosomes 1-6 in cord blood are associated with prenatal exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) measured in air and are disproportionate to genomic content. We now examine whether the association with air PAHs is chromosome-specific and extend...

In a previous study of lung cancer, we showed that bleomycin, a radiomimetic agent, induced breaks preferentially on chromosomes 4 and 5. The molecular cytogenetic study reported here, using chromosome painting and G banding, was designed to assess whether the chromatid breaks induced by bleomycin could survive as chromosome-type aberrations after treated lymphocyte populations were allowed to ...

The establishment of human diploid chromosome number (Tjio and Levan, 1956), have led to the foundations of human cytogenetics. Since then, due to the rapid developments of new techniques for chromosome analysis, many other chromosome disorders were recognized. The introduction of banding techniques, yielding a highly reproducible banding pattern, allowed the reliable identification of every si...

Aneuploidy has been well-documented in blastocyst embryos, but prior studies have been limited in scale and/or lack mechanistic data. We previously reported preclinical validation of microarray 24-chromosome preimplantation genetic screening in a 24-h protocol. The method diagnoses chromosome copy number, structural chromosome aberrations, parental source of aneuploidy and distinguishes certain...

OBJECTIVE Multiple myeloma (MM) is characterized by the accumulation and proliferation of malignant plasma cells, secreting monoclonal immunoglobulins and genetic abnormalities in MM have implications for disease progression and survival. In the present study, we investigated the frequency of chromosomal abnormalities (CA) in Turkish patients with MM, using interphase FISH and CC and evaluated ...

Case report involving a normal female by NIPT with male external genitalia on routine fetal morphology assessment. QF-PCR, CGH microarray, and FISH revealed an unbalanced translocation, involving the short arms of the X and Y chromosomes. This case demonstrates the possible limitations of correctly identifying sex chromosome abnormalities via NIPT.

INTRODUCTION The invention and use of antibiotics in treating infections is one of the greatest achievements of the twentieth century medicine. Antibiotics are one of the categories of pharmaceuticals with a broad and increasing application. GOAL The goal of this paper is to analyze the influence of different set of test concentrations of ceftriaxone antibiotics on the occurrence of chromosom...

Chromosome aberrations are frequently observed in hematopoietic malignancies. These aberrations can deregulate expression of an oncogene, resulting in aberrant expression or overexpression, or they can form leukemia-specific chimeric fusion proteins. Detection of chromosome aberrations is an important tool for classification of the malignancy and for the definition of risk groups, which need di...
