A case of histologically confirmed Paget disease of the orbit produced a lesion that appeared both clinically and histologically similar to a cholesterol granuloma. This case is unique because of the unusual location of the lesion, its presentation in a patient with no other manifestations of Paget disease, and the histological picture produced by the disease.

BACKGROUND Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XP) is an extremely rare, severe, atypical form of chronic renal parenchymal inflammation accompanied by hydronephrosis and/or urolithiasis. The pathomechanism of XP is not yet fully understood. Microscopically, XP is indicated by the presence of multinucleated giant cells and lipid-laden macrophages, as well as inflammatory infiltration and intens...

Granuloma annulare has been associated with systemic disease including diabetes mellitus. We report a case of a 62-year-old Japanese woman with generalized erythematous granuloma annulare who showed remission after substantial improvement in hyperlipidemia following a strict lipid-lowering diet. The lesion appeared in the lower abdomen one year before current presentation and subsequently sprea...

A transcranial approach in combination with a transpetrosal setting has been the mainstream of surgical treatment of cholesterol granulomas in the petrous apex. However, endoscopic endonasal surgery has become a choice of treatment for these lesions with recent advancements in surgical techniques and instruments. We report a successful case of cholesterol granuloma managed with endoscopic endon...

Background Cholesterol granulomas arising at the petrous apex can be treated via traditional open surgical, endoscopic, and endoscopic-assisted approaches. Endoscopic approaches require access to the sphenoid sinus, which is technically challenging in patients with conchal sphenoidal anatomy. Clinical Presentation A 55-year-old woman presented with intermittent headaches and tinnitus. Formal au...

We reviewed the clinical, CT, and MR findings in seven consecutive patients who had a total of nine cholesterol granulomas. Preoperative MR scans were available for five of the seven patients; two patients were studied with MR after treatment only (one had a recurrent lesion and the other was asymptomatic at the time of study). Preoperative CT scans were available for all patients, except one p...

404 Petrous apex cholesterol granulomas are relatively rare lesions. They are usually unilocular and treated with simple fenestration. However, lobulated lesions require total removal of debris inside the cysts. Herein, we report a first case with a lobulated petrous apex cholesterol granuloma. The lesion extended from cerebello-pontine angel to the clivus. It was lobulated and contained debris...

Cholesterol granulomas are common in the mastoid antrum and air cells of the temporal bone. In the paranasal sinuses, especially in the frontal sinus, they have occasionally been mentioned in the literature. The pathogenesis is unknown, but the majority of the authors support the concept of airway obstruction in the cells well pneumatised of temporal bone and paranasal sinuses. The authors repo...

We here described a case of a 57-year-old woman with a sudden onset of mild ptosis and deficit of abduction in her right eye with diplopia. After ophthalmologic evaluation, she performed a CT scan with evidence of a lesion at the level of the orbital medial wall. To determine the nature of this lesion the patient underwent surgery and the surgical excision of the mass was performed through a ri...
