Maternal effects are important in epigenetic determination of offspring phenotypes during all life stages. In the chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus), transgenerational transfer of egg yolk factors may set the stage for morphological and physiological phenotypic differences observed among breeds. To investigate the effect of breed-specific yolk composition on embryonic broiler and layer chicken ...

A total of 8.2% of flies caught outside a broiler house in Denmark had the potential to transmit Campylobacter jejuni to chickens, and hundreds of flies per day passed through the ventilation system into the broiler house. Our study suggests that flies may be an important source of Campylobacter infection of broiler flocks in summer.

Better environmentally controlled broiler houses have resulted in many integrated broiler operations using the same dietary feed formulations in winter and summer months due to only minor differences in environmental temperature in the broiler house. Much research has addressed broiler nutrient needs in thermoneutral vs. hot temperature conditions, but research evaluating nutrient needs of broi...

Value-added materials produced from broiler manure can be a renewable alternative to its problematic disposal. Pyrolysis of broiler manure (litter and cake) produces char, bio-oil, and biogas. In this study broiler manure chars were characterized for their ability to adsorb selected metal ions. Char yields for pelletized broiler manure slowly pyrolyzed at 700 and 800 °C for 1 h ranged between 2...

Controlling Salmonella in integrated broiler operation is complicated because there are numerous potential sources of Salmonella contamination, including chicks, feed, rodents, wild poultry operations, and the processing plant. The objective of this study was to investigate the distribution of Salmonella through all phases of two integrated broiler operations and to determine the key areas rela...

The present study was carried out to investigate the economic loss of flood victim broiler farms and also to explore the relationship between various independent variables with economic loss of flood victim broiler farms (dependent variable). The independent variables were considered as education, family size, occupation, farm size, feed sources, types of vaccine and medicine used and marketing...

Use of byproducts in ruminant diets can decrease production costs and increase total production. Chemical and physical characteristics of byproduct feedstuffs and animal nutrient requirements determine most appropriate means of use. Broiler litter is high in ruminally degraded crude protein and moderate to low in available energy concentration; therefore, most efficient use is as a crude protei...

Broiler is a readily available meat source catering the need of meat eating people. The disposal of broiler waste such as carcasses, blood, feather and offal produced from slaughtering broiler birds need to be disposed or utilized properly. Considering this, the present study was purposively conducted in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu to identify the existing disposal method and recommend ...

Polyether ionophores, monensin, and salinomycin are commonly used as antiparasitic drugs in broiler production and may be present in broiler litter (bird excreta plus bedding material). Long-term application of broiler litter to pastures may lead to ionophore contamination of surface waters. Because polyether ionophores break down at low pH, we hypothesized that decreasing litter pH with an aci...

Institutional investors who acquire stock via equity distributions from stocks they already own tend to sell these holdings immediately, especially if the spinoff is much smaller, or in a different industry, than the parent. However, these sales are partially offset by purchases from investors that specialize in the characteristics of the spinoff. In a large sample of spinoffs between 1980 and ...
