We describe an immunocompromised patient who developed a large frontal brain abscess caused by Legionella micdadei. This is, to our knowledge, a rare case of culture-proven Legionella central nervous system infection.

Main findings were bilateral or unilateral tempanic membrane perforation, foul smelly discharge, granulation tissue, retraction pocket, hearing loss, nystagmus, and hemipareses. Abscess of the brain is a condition fortunately not very common, but none the less one very important to recognize. At the present time the mortality is high, and at least in part this is due to the fact that a large proportion of the cases are not recognized or are recognized only in the late stages, though even of those cases diagnosed and treated early a larger proportion die than should be ...
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Brain abscess remains a potentially fatal central nervous system (CNS) disease, especially in developing countries. Anaerobic abscess is difficult to diagnose because of cumbersome procedures associated with the isolation of anaerobes. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a hospital-based retrospective microbiological analysis of 430 brain abscess materials (purulent aspira...

This is particularly common in the East Asians living in the United States who has other comorbid medical problems, especially diabetes mellitus. Metastatic infections involving non-contiguous areas originating from Klebsiella pneumoniae liver abscess have been doc...
Leuconostoc species are emerging pathogens that can cause severe infections, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Using molecular methods, we identified Leuconostoc mesenteroides as the cause of a brain abscess which was successfully treated by surgery and antimicrobial treatment. This is the first report of brain abscess caused by this species.
We report an interesting case of delayed frontal abscess caused by a penetrating nonmissile foreign body, a bamboo stick in a 1.5-year-old male child. A parietal craniotomy was performed, and the brain abscess was resected along with the foreign body without any damage to the surrounding brain tissue. He also received the appropriate antibiotics. The child made a good recovery.
