2011年3月に大津波を受けた仙台市海岸部で，海岸林造成に伴う盛土の回避による海浜植物の保全効果を検証するために，自律的に再生したケカモノハシの分布様態を明らかにした。調査は，津波から10生育期が過ぎた2020年12月に実施し，小型UAVを用いて画像を取得し，奥行約375 m，幅600 mの範囲で，ケカモノハシの分布位置と個体投影面積の判読を行った。その結果，ケカモノハシは，盛土エリアで顕著に少なく，砂浜エリアと非盛土エリアで多かった。非盛土エリアでは，株の小さい個体が顕著に少なく，さらに天然更新した低木のクロマツが多かったことから，ケカモノハシの新規個体が定着・成長しづらい条件にあると考えられた。
