We investigate femtosecond photoassociation of thermally hot atoms in the gas phase and its coherent control. In the photoassociation process, formation of a chemical bond is facilitated by light in a free-to-bound optical transition. Here, we study free-to-bound photoassociation of a diatomic molecule induced by femtosecond pulses exciting a pair of scattering atoms interacting via the van-der...

We report a facile synthetic strategy to prepare UBL-AMP electrophilic probes that form a covalent bond with the catalytic cysteine of cognate E1s, mimicking the tetrahedral intermediate of the E1-UBL-AMP complex. These probes enable the structural and biochemical study of both canonical- and non-canonical E1s.

New methods for determining chemical structures from residual dipolar couplings are presented. The fundamental dipolar coupling equation is converted to an elliptical equation in the principal alignment frame. This elliptical equation is then combined with other angular or dipolar coupling constraints to form simple polynomial equations that define discrete solutions for the unit vector(s). The...

BACKGROUND To reduce the cost of the enzymes for the hydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass, two main strategies have been followed: one, the reduction of enzyme dosing by the use of more efficient and stable enzymatic cocktails; another, to include accessory enzymes in the cocktails to increase yields by reducing the recalcitrant carbohydrate fraction remaining at the end of the process. To gui...

Introduction: In recent dentin adhesive systems etching of enamel/dentin are achieved simultaneously. The objective was to evaluate the microleakage of composite restorations using Single Bond2 (5th generation), Clearfil S3 Bond and G Bond (7th generation). Methods: Class V cavities were prepared on  45 extracted intact premolars with gingival margins at the cementoenamel junction and they were...

background: casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (cpp-acp) is applied for remineralization of early caries lesions or tooth sensitivity conditions and may affect subsequent resin bonding. this in vitro study investigated the effect of cpp-acp on the shear bond strength of dental adhesives to enamel. materials and methods: sixty extracted human molar teeth were selected and randomly...

objective: optimal dentin bonding is not always obtained in clinical practice due to func-tional forces. these forces may provide stresses throughout the tooth and restorative sys-tem, which in turn may affect the adhesive bond. this experimental study evaluated the effect of load cycling on bond strength of self-etch systems. materials and methods: one third of the coronal portions of 48 intac...

In this work, we have investigated a novel distal proton shuttle mechanism of ribosome catalyzed peptide bond formation reaction. The reaction was found to follow a two-step mechanism. A distal water molecule located about 6.1 Å away from the attacking amine plays as a proton acceptor and results in a charge-separated intermediate that is stabilized by the N terminus of L27 and the A-site A76 5...

E Prodan W Kohn

In an earlier paper, W. Kohn had qualitatively introduced the concept of "nearsightedness" of electrons in many-atom systems. It can be viewed as underlying such important ideas as Pauling's "chemical bond," "transferability," and Yang's computational principle of "divide and conquer." It describes the fact that, for fixed chemical potential, local electronic properties, such as the density n(r...
