Ultrafast, high quantum efficiency single photon detectors are among the most sought-after elements in modern quantum optics and quantum communication. Close-to-unity photon detection efficiency is essential for scalable measurement-based quantum computation, quantum key distribution, and loophole-free Bell experiments. However, imperfect modal matching and finite photon absorption rates have u...

Debris flow is a type of landslide that occurs mainly in mountain valley areas during heavy rainfall. Various types barriers have been installed South Korea to reduce the damage caused by debris flows. However, there no reasonable design standard when installing barrier, and an experimental study for performance evaluation insufficient. In this study, net-type barrier was evaluated analyzing ef...

Core-shell nanoparticles consisting of silica as core and surface-grafted poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) as shell with different diameters were prepared and used as heterogeneous nucleation agents to obtain CO2-blown poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanocomposite foams. PDMS was selected as the shell material as it possesses a low surface energy and high CO2-philicity. The successful synthesis o...

Triple emulsion drops with an ultrathin water layer are developed to achieve high encapsulation efficiency of hydrophobic cargo in a hydrophobic polymeric shell, directly dispersed in water. Furthermore, enhanced retention of volatile hydrophobic cargo is achieved by forming a hydrogel network within this water layer that serves as a physical barrier.

It promotes cardiac efficiency by limiting dilation, maintaining ventricular compliance with preservation of the Starling curve and distributing hydrostatic forces. It aids atrial filling by creating a closed chamber, reduces external friction and acts as a barrier against infection and extension of malignancy. Finally, it anatomically fixes the heart to the sternum, diaphragm and costal cartil...

The multi-mode approximation is presented to compute the interior wave function of Schrödinger equation. This idea is necessary to handle the multi-barrier and high dimensional resonant tunneling problems where multiple eigenvalues are considered. The accuracy and efficiency of this algorithm is demonstrated via several numerical examples.

The spray drying technique was used to obtain the roxithromycin containing microcapsules with high taste masking efficiency. Eudragit L30D-55 was chosen as a barrier coating. The taste was evaluated by an electronic tongue, and taste-masking effect in water lasted at least several dozen hours.

The notion of a double well potential typically involves two regions space separated by repulsive barrier. ground state
is wave function that suppressed in the barrier region and localized surrounding regions. We illustrate an attractive (a quantum moat) with finite non-zero width also acts as barrier, using simple square model. show how pseudopotential method both explains role greatly i...

Introduction Sometimes there is a need to answer important clinical questions quickly. Bureaucracy can erect an insurmountable barrier. The Research Governance Framework (RGF) for Health and Social Care was introduced in England in 2005 aiming to improve the efficiency and quality of research in the NHS, but has unwittingly introduced a new layer of bureaucracy which is preventing some importan...
