OBJECTIVE Auditory steady-state responses (ASSR) evoked by recurrent brief tones were assessed over a wide range of stimulus repetition rates apropos the traditionally measured obligatory, transient, auditory evoked potentials. Repetition rates of ≤ 10 Hz have received little attention in the context of the ASSR stimulus-response analysis approach, speculated to provide technical advantages/add...

高折 修二 ・中井 義尚 ・笹 征史 ・島本 暉朗 The present authors (1-3) have reported that the evoked potentials and ensuing rhythmic after-discharges in the auditory cortex of the unanesthetized cat caused by click stimuli are easily affected by change of environmental conditions. Furthermore, they have found that pentobarbital sodium, chloralose and chlorpromazine in small doses increase the magnitude of the cor...

BACKGROUND brainstem auditory evoked potentials in brain death. AIM to verify the agreement between the response in the auditory brainstem audiometry and the clinical outcome, analyzing the pattern of responses to electric stimulation. METHOD a cross-sectional study performed in 30 patients with Glasgow coma score of 3, submitted to the auditory brainstem audiometry and followed up until th...

Herein, we report a case of multiple sclerosis in which peripheral and central hearing, were evaluated through early (brainstem), middle and late auditory evoked potentials before and after corticosteroid therapy. Auditory evaluation revealed better performance on all post-treatment tests. In this case, central auditory function tests (behavioral and electrophysiological) identified the locatio...

Quantifying and understanding the impact of anthropogenic sound on marine mammals has been the focus of many researchers both in laboratory settings as well as in the field. This study presents the audiogram of a sub-adult Blainville's beaked whale that stranded in Hawaii. The hearing measurements were conducted using the non-invasive auditory brainstem response technique. A total of 11 sinusoi...

BACKGROUND The influence of physiological and methodological factors on recordings of brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) is greater in children than in adults. OBJECTIVE To collect and evaluate BAEP data in normal children, and measure intra- and inter-laboratory variability. METHODS Seven hundred and fifty unselected BAEP recordings were collected and evaluated from children rang...

The effect of hypobaric hypoxia on Brain Stem Auditory evoked potentials (BAERs) were studied. BAERs were recorded in 30 volunteers at sea level (SL) and then at high altitude (HA) of 3200 m (HA I) and 4300 m (HA II) in Eastern Himalayas and on return to sea level (RSL). The BAERs were recorded using Nicolet Compact - 4 (USA) in response to monaural auditory stimuli consisting of clicks of 100 ...

BACKGROUND Auditory neuropathy/dysynchrony (AN/AD) typically develops early in life and is bilateral in nature. PURPOSE Herein, we describe an unusual finding of late-onset unilateral AN/AD based on reported case history and audiometric findings. RESEARCH DESIGN A 64-year-old female presented with a complaint of a progressive unilateral hearing loss that had developed over the past two-thre...

The technique that we use for eliciting brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAERs) is described. BAERs are a non-invasive and reliable clinical test when carefully performed. This test is indicated in the evaluation of disorders which may potentially involve the brainstem such as coma, multiple sclerosis, posterior fossa tumors and others. Unsuspected lesions with normal radiologic studies (in...

Seventeen llamas and 23 alpacas of various coat and iris colors were evaluated for: (1) deafness by using brainstem auditory evoked response testing; and (2) for ocular abnormalities via complete ophthalmic examination. No animals were deaf. The most common ocular abnormalities noted were iris-to-iris persistent pupillary membranes and incipient cataracts.
