We propose a scheme to enhance near-UV band absorption of a rutile TiO(2) nanoparticle by placing Au nanoparticles in its neighborhood. The discrete-dipole approximation method was employed to calculate the absorption spectrum of pure rutile TiO(2) and that of TiO(2) mixed with Au nanoparticles. The results indicate that pure rutile TiO(2) has its maximum absorption located in the deep-UV band....

Förster resonance energy transfer FRET between CdTe quantum dots QDs at nanoscale proximity to gold nanoparticle Au NP layers is investigated experimentally. We have observed the enhancement in the acceptor QDs’ photoluminescence lifetime intensities. The decrease in donor QDs’ exciton lifetime from 5.74 to 2.06 ns, accompanied by an increase in acceptor QDs’ exciton lifetime from 3.38 to 7.52 ...

An efficient Hydrogen evolution catalyst has been developed by decorating Au nanoparticle on the surface of CuS nanostructure following a green and environmental friendly approach. CuS nanostructure is synthesized through a simple wet-chemical route. CuS being a visible light photocatalyst is introduced to function as an efficient reducing agent. Photogenerated electron is used to reduce Au(III...

The photosensitizer (PS) methylene blue (MB) is confined in the close vicinity of an Au nanorod, by incorporating it into SiO2 during Au-core/SiO2-shell nanoparticle (NP) growth. Upon light irradiation of the Au@(SiO2-MB) NPs, generation of reactive oxygen species and their transport to the cytoplasm are directly responsible for significantly decreased cell viability. We have excluded the indep...

Using atomic force microscopy nanomanipulation, we position a single Au nanoparticle near a CdSe/ZnS quantum dot to construct a hybrid nanostructure with variable geometry. The coupling between the two particles is varied in a systematic and reversible manner. The photoluminescence lifetime and blinking of the same quantum dot are measured before and after assembly of the structure. In some hyb...

High-efficiency and high-selectivity catalytic oxidation of alkanes under mild conditions with air is a major aim of current catalytic chemistry and chemical production. Despite extensive development efforts on new catalysts for cyclohexane oxidation, current commercial processes still suffer from low conversion, poor selectivity, and excessive production of waste. Here, we present the design a...

We report the microwave synthesis and characterization of Au and Pd nanoparticle catalysts supported on CeO2, CuO, and ZnO nanoparticles for CO oxidation. The results indicate that supported Au/CeO2 catalysts exhibit excellent activity for low-temperature CO oxidation. The Pd/CeO2 catalyst shows a uniform dispersion of Pd nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution within the ceria support. A...

Biomolecular templates provide an excellent potential tool for bottom-up device fabrication. Self-assembling alpha-synuclein protein fibrils, the formation of which has been linked to Parkinson's disease, have yet to be explored for potential device fabrication. In this paper, alpha-synuclein fibrils were used as a template for palladium (Pd), gold (Au) and copper (Cu) nanoparticle chains synth...

We illustrate the important trade-off between far-field scattering effects, which have the potential to provide increased optical path length over broad bands, and parasitic absorption due to the excitation of localized surface plasmon resonances in metal nanoparticle arrays. Via detailed comparison of photocurrent enhancements given by Au, Ag and Al nanostructures on thin-film GaAs devices we ...
