A time-dependent coupled-channel approach was used to calculate ionization, excitation, and energyloss cross sections as well as energy spectra for antiproton and proton collisions with molecular hydrogen for impact energies 8<E< 4000 keV.
We review the theory of spin filtering of stored (anti)protons by multiple passage through the polarized internal target (PIT). Implications for the antiproton polarization buildup in the proposed PAX experiment at FAIR GSI are discussed.
The excess of continuum γ-ray emission from the Galaxy above 1 GeV is an unsolved puzzle. It may indicate that the interstellar nucleon or electron spectra are harder than local direct measurements, as could be the case if a local source of cosmic rays were to dominate the nearby flux. It is however difficult to distinguish between the two cases. Cosmic-ray secondary antiprotons provide a way t...
We present new results from studies on diffractive dijet production and exclusive production of dijet and diphoton obtained by the CDF Collaboration in proton-antiproton collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron.
Fermilab has long had the world’s most intense antiproton source. Despite this, opportunities for low-energy antiproton physics at Fermilab have in the past been limited and — with the antiproton source now exclusively dedicated to serving the needs of the Tevatron Collider — are currently nonexistent. While the future of antiproton physics at Fermilab is uncertain, the anticipated shutdown of ...
We present a review of central exclusive dijet production in p̄p collisions, where the proton and antiproton emerge intact, and only two jets of transverse energy above a certain threshold are present in the final state. The results are published in two papers by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) Collaboration, a PRL (2000) and a PRD (2008), based on data collected at √ s = 1.8 TeV and 1.9...
Assuming a simple spherical relativistic mean eld model of the nucleus, we estimate the width of the antiproton{neutron annihilation ( n) and the width of antiproton{proton ( p) annihilation, in an antiprotonic atom system. This allows us to determine the halo factor f , which is then discussed in the context of experimental data obtained in measurements recently done on LEAR utility at CERN. A...
We present the results of an experiment to search for trapped antihydrogen atoms with the ALPHA antihydrogen trap at the CERN Antiproton Decelerator. Sensitive diagnostics of the temperatures, sizes, and densities of the trapped antiproton and positron plasmas have been developed, which in turn permitted development of techniques to precisely and reproducibly control the initial experimental pa...
The PANDA experiment is one of the large installations at the future international Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany. It will be located at an internal target station of the High Energy Storage Ring for anti-protons. The PANDA physics programme focusses on charmonium spectroscopy and the search for glueballs and hybrids, but also includes hypernuclear physics...
