Small-vessel vasculitides associated with the presence of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies in the serum are characterized by inflammation and necrosis of small vessels. A pauci-immune necrotizing crescentic glomerulonephritis typically occurs when there is renal damage. Pathogenesis of these diseases remains unclear although infectious, genetic and environmental factors have been involved....
ANCA) and the perinuclear (P-ANCA). CANCA appears as a granular, diffuse cytoplasmic fluorescence, often with accentuated fluorescence around the nuclear lobes, and typical P-ANCA reactivity is Dear Sir, A 33-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with cough and fever (over 39.0 ° C). About 1 month prior to the current admission, she had presented with fever (over 39.0 ° C), diarrhea and b...
A dministration of propylthiouracil therapy has been associated with a hypersensitivity syndrome that typically manifests as vasculitis. Most cases of propylthiouracil therapy– induced antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) positivity react to perinuclear ANCA (p-ANCA). We describe a patient who presented with cutaneous manifestations of propylthiouracil therapy hypersensitivity vasculitis ...
Two patients with long-standing chronic bronchial suppuration developed antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) positive Wegener's granulomatosis and microscopic polyarteritis respectively. There is published evidence of an association between previous suppurative respiratory disease and Wegener's granulomatosis. We believe that our cases provide further evidence that chronic lung infection ...
Key words: antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody; normal in March 1996. She received no medication. chronic lymphocytic leukaemia; crescentic glomerulo-Upon admission her general condition was good: no nephritis; T-cell defect fever, normal blood pressure, no lymphadenopathy or hepatosplenomegaly. Laboratory findings were: serum creatinine 314 mmol/l, BUN 15 mmol/l, total proteins 65 g/l,
We report on a case of Wegener granulomatosis in the pterygopalatine fossa that was associated with trigeminal neuropathy. MR and CT examinations were useful in depicting the extent of the lesion and suggesting a perineural spread. Diagnosis was confirmed with positive serum assay findings for the presence of cytoplasmic antineutrophil cytoplasm antibody.
Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies are associated with pauci-immune small-vessel vasculitis and crescentic glomerulonephritis. Cathelicidin LL37 is the human member of a family of antimicrobial peptides that are released from activated neutrophils and monocytes at sites of acute inflammation. Zhang and colleagues evaluated serum levels of cathelicidin LL37 and interferon-alpha in patients wi...
introduction antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (anca)-associated glomerulonephritis (gn) is characterized by necrotizing and crescentic gn with paucity of immunoglobulin (ig) and complement deposition, which is also known as pauci-immune crescentic gn. membranous nephropathy (mn) is characterized by the formation of subepithelial immune deposit with resultant changes in glomerular basement ...
Sir, I would like to correct my comment in my original letter,[1] commenting on the article published by Rishi et al.,[2] which is “ this condition is unlikely to occur on ground of embryology, as the central retinal artery develops from a single hyaloid artery and enters the lamina cribrosa.” Now, my attention has been drawn by Dr. S S Hayreh that on certain occasions it is possible to have tw...
