Background & Objective: Food poisonings caused by consumption of domestic dairy products such as cheese due to Escherichia coli (E.coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus) are one of the hygienic problems in foodstuffs. Nowadays, using natural preservatives instead of synthetic preservatives in foods has been regarded increasingly and among these natural compounds, medicinal plants comprise t...

Staphylococcus aureus is an important pathogen and produces a widespread infection. Increasing usage of antibiotic for staphylococcus aureus infections has created antibiotic resistance and subsequently new antibiotics should be produceed. Medicinal herbs with antimicrobial activity have had important roles in traditional medicine. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial ac...

Silver nanoparticles plays a vital role in the development of new antimicrobial substances against a number of pathogenic microorganisms. These nanoparticles due to their smaller size could be very effective as they can improve the antibacterial activity through lysis of bacterial cell wall. Green synthesis of metal nanoparticles using various plants and plant products has recently been success...

A simple, clean and efficient method for the synthesis of spiro[pyrimido[4,5-b]quinoline-5,5'-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine]-pentaone derivatives by condensation reaction of 6-amino-uracils and isatins in aqueous media is reported. These products were evaluated in vitro for their antibacterial activities.

The stability of cefepime during simulated continuous infusion was determined with a motorized portable infusion pump worn over a period of 24 to 36 h. Susceptibility testing on cefepime solutions over time indicates that the degradation products do not exhibit antibacterial activity. Cefepime stability at 24 h following continuous infusion was 94.3% +/- 1.0%, which supports the use of continuo...

1-(Acridin-9-yl)-3-disubstituted thioureas react with methyl bromoacetate and bromoacetonitrile, respectively, depending on a substituent bulkiness, to polyfunctionally substituted (acridin9-yl)imino-1,3-thiazolidin-4-ones and spiro[9,10-dihydroacridine-9,4-thiazolidines]. Reactions represent the simple and convenient way to synthesize the title compounds with possible antibacterial activity. B...

A new method for the catalytic enantioselective formal arylation of azlactones using quinones as the aromatic partner was developed for the first time. Under mild conditions, the domino Michael/aromatization/cyclization reaction worked well to afford the corresponding products in moderate to high yields with excellent enantioselectivities, some of which have promising cytotoxicity against cance...

Early antibacterial discovery might be divided into the synthetic and antibiotic traditions. The salvarsan-prontosil strand led to exploration of antimetabolite and other chemotherapeutic approaches, while penicillin’s discovery led to the fruitful exploitation of natural products produced by microorganisms. With the investigation of the mechanisms of action of synthetic and antibiotic agents a...

We present here the genome sequence ofStreptomyces canusATCC 12647, a producer of the antibiotic telomycin, noted for its unique antibacterial activity against cardiolipin. Genomic analysis using the bioinformatics tool PRISM revealed the presence of multiple biosynthetic gene clusters, including those for telomycin and other natural products of potential pharmacological interest.
