HIGHLIGHTS • A strain of Penicillium citreosulfuratum was isolated from corroded metal. The fungus formed biofilm on the surface aluminum wire. This grew in presence 50 mM Al3+ liquid medium. Thyme, oregano, and melaleuca essential oils inhibited this growth.
