We describe an implemented system for touching 3D objects depicted in visual images using a two dimensional, force-re ecting haptic interface. The system constructs 3D geometric models from real 2D stereo images. The force feedback at each position is computed to provide the sensation of moving a small ball over the surface of the 3D object.
Modeling 3D shapes is a specialized skill not affordable to most novice artists due to its complexity and tediousness. At the same time, databases of complex models ready for use are becoming widespread, and can help the modeling task in a process called example-based modeling. We introduce such an example-based mesh modeling approach which, contrary to prior work, allows for the replacement of...
Investigating Knowledge Transfer: A Preliminary Model to Improve Our Understanding of the Literature
Knowledge transfer is a critical activity in every organization and an essential component of knowledge management. Previous research has identified that of the four key knowledge management processes (i.e. creation, storage/retrieval, transfer, and application) transfer is discussed most often in the literature. What remains unclear is the nature and structure of knowledge transfer. Research i...
A parametric voxel-based jewelry modeler is developed for designing carved bangles of sophisticated craftsmanship. Carved jewelry is the form of jewelry having small internal repeated cavities as engraved with a thin sharp tool on the surface of sheet metal. The parameters’ values are defined by the user and modeling of the jewelry design is carried out by the modeler based on the specified val...
Acknowledgments At this point I would like to thank the people who contributed directly or indirectly to the text for this tutorial. First of all I would like to express my gratitude towards professor Luc Van Gool, head of the Industrial Image Processing group (VISICS/PSI/ESAT) of the K.U.Leuven. I am very grateful to my colleagues Maarten Vergauwen and Kurt Cornelis who are not only doing grea...
While the importance of Knowledge Management (KM) initiatives is obvious today, successfully implementing KM initiatives still poses a challenge. In this contribution we argue that an overview and integration of existing knowledge about success factors is missing and is part of the problem. Consequently we show the results of a literature review on KM success factor literature. Out of 180 publi...
