Harmicine is a β-carboline alkaloid isolated and identified as a major active compound present in many plant species and marine invertebrates. This alkaloid exhibits a wide spectrum of pharmacological activities, including antispasmodic, antipyretic, and anticancer properties. This report described the antinociceptive properties of harmicine by means of chemical experimental models in order to ...

A highly stereocontrolled total synthesis of the cytotoxic marine macrolide aplyronine C is described. The route exploits aldol methodology to install the requisite stereochemistry and features a crucial boron-mediated aldol coupling of an N-vinylformamide-bearing methyl ketone with a macrocyclic aldehyde to introduce the full side chain. The synthesis of two novel C21-C34 side chain analogs is...

Analogs of cortistatins, a series of anti-angiogenic compounds isolated from the Indonesian marine sponge Cortisium simplex, were synthesized from estrone by using the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction as the key step. The estrone-isoquinoline hybridized compound showed selective inhibitory activity against the proliferation and VEGF-induced migration of HUVEC.

In this study, we present results obtained on the diastereo- and enantioseparation of some basic natural synthetic Cinchona alkaloid analogs by applying liquid chromatographic (LC) subcritical fluid (SFC) modalities amylose cellulose tris-(phenylcarbamate)-based stationary phases using n-hexane/alcohol/DEA or CO2/alcohol/DEA mobile phase systems. Seven chiral in their immobilized form were empl...

Three novel furoquinoline alkaloid oxogeranyl ethers (1-3) and one known furoquinoline alkaloid (4) were isolated from the leaves of Boninia glabra, an endemic plant of the Bonin Islands. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis.

Objective(s): Evaluation of the Sophora alopecuroides var. alopecuroides seed effects on morphine withdrawal syndrome in mice and determination of the alkaloid composition of the seed total extract. Materials and Methods:The effects of the seed total extract, alkaloid fraction and major compound matrine on the mice morphine withdrawal syndrome were compared to saline and methadone.Mice were ma...

Background: Alkaloids are a group of nitrogen- containing natural compounds derived from a variety of sources including bacteria, fungi, marine organisms and plants. Materials and methods: Fruits, stem or leaves were collected from the Zagros highlands around Azna or Khoramabad city, dried and powdered before being extracted in a soxhalet apparatus. The extract was filtered and concentrated u...

Present review describes research on novel natural pharmacological compounds isolated from marine sponges. More than 90 novel cytotoxic antitumor compounds and their synthetic analogs have shown confirmed activity in vitro tumor cell lines bioassay and are of current interest to NCI for further in vivo evaluation. A great problem, to use directly the reservoir of marine organisms for therapy is...
