An achievable rate region for line networks with edge and node capacity constraints and broadcast channels (BCs) is derived. The region is shown to be the capacity region if the BCs are orthogonal, deterministic, physically degraded, or packet erasure with one-bit feedback. If the BCs are physically degraded with additive Gaussian noise then independent Gaussian inputs achieve capacity.

Hydatid cyst of the liver, causing compression of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and hepatic veins is a rare cause of secondary Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS). As the hydatid disease is endemic in India, it is a rare but treatable cause of BCS. The early diagnosis and timely intervention can prevent hepatic complications leading to BCS in the affected patients.

Time spent lying by lactating Holstein-Friesian cows of varying body condition scores (BCS) and milk yield was measured using an animal activity monitor. A 3-week average BCS was calculated for each cow; and in total, 84 cows were selected with 28 cows each among three BCS categories (Thin: BCS<2.75; Moderate: 2.75 > or = BCS<3.25; Heavy: BCS> or = 3.25) and two stage of lactation categories (<...

Data from 113 lactations across 76 cows between the years 2002 to 2004 were used to determine the effect of strain of Holstein-Friesian (HF) dairy cow and concentrate supplementation on milk production, body weight (BW), and body condition score (BCS; 1 to 5 scale) lactation profiles. New Zealand (NZ) and North American (NA) HF cows were randomly allocated to 1 of 3 levels of concentrate supple...

[1] The sensitivity of regional air quality model to various lateral and top boundary conditions is studied at 2 scales: a 60 km domain covering the whole USA and a 12 km domain over northeastern USA. Three global models (MOZART-NCAR, MOZART-GFDL and RAQMS) are used to drive the STEM-2K3 regional model with time-varied lateral and top boundary conditions (BCs). The regional simulations with dif...

We studied the etiology, diagnosis and natural course of myeloproliferative disease (MPD) in 40 consecutive patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS). In 38% of the BCS patients with MPD another etiological factor was found. JAK2 mutation was present in 41% of the tested BCS patients. Survival was not significantly affected by the presence of MPD.

By recognizing the vital importance of two-hole Cooper pairs (CPs) in addition to the usual two-electron ones in a strongly-interacting many-electron system, the concept of CPs was re-examined with striking conclusions: namely, they are gapped and linearly-dispersive resonances with a finite lifetime—but provided the ideal-gas Fermi sea is replaced by a BCS-correlated unperturbed ground-state “...

BACKGROUND Bedtime ingestion of slow-release carbohydrates leads to sustained nocturnal fatty acid suppression and improved glucose tolerance in type 2 diabetic patients. OBJECTIVE This study assessed the effects of 2 different doses of bedtime carbohydrate supplement (BCS) on morning glycemic control and glycated hemoglobin (Hb A(1c)) in type 2 diabetic patients. In addition, the effects of ...

BACKGROUND Geographic variations in the use of mastectomy and the use of radiation therapy (RT) after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) have motivated concerns that surgeons are not uniformly adhering to treatment standards. METHODS The authors surveyed attending surgeons of a population-based sample of patients with breast carcinoma diagnosed in Detroit and Los Angeles from December 2001 to Ja...

The objective of the present study was to quantify the relationships among body condition score (BCS; scale 1 to 5), live weight (WT) and milk production in Irish Holstein-Friesian spring calving dairy cows. Data were from 66 commercial dairy herds during the years 1999 and 2000. The data consisted of up to 9886 lactations with records for BCS or WT at least once pre-calving, or at calving, nad...
