This report shows several videoconferencing services offered by the Advanced Broadband Communications Centre (C.CABA) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. These services are provided thanks to a high performance CSCW application (ISABEL). Moreover, all these activities used ATM as Wide Area Network technology, through the Spanish ATM Network (GIGACOM).

ATM has a central role in controlling the cellular responses to DNA damage. It and other phosphoinositide 3-kinase-related kinases (PIKKs) have giant helical HEAT repeat domains in their amino-terminal regions. The functions of these domains in PIKKs are not well understood. ATM activation in response to DNA damage appears to be regulated by the Mre11-Rad50-Nbs1 (MRN) complex, although the exac...

x-ATM is a portable toolkit of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) protocols implemented in a general purpose communications kernel (the x-kernel). The toolkit provides an environment for experimentation with ATM adaptation layers, interoperable ATM signalling, IP over ATM, and real time transport protocols. The x-kernel permits easy composability and promotes protocol modularity, thus x-ATM proto...

The Atm protein kinase is central to the DNA double-strand break response in mammalian cells. After irradiation, dimeric Atm undergoes autophosphorylation at Ser 1981 and dissociates into active monomers. Atm activation is stimulated by expression of the Mre11/Rad50/nibrin complex. Previously, we showed that a C-terminal fragment of nibrin, containing binding sites for both Mre11 and Atm, was s...

BACKGROUND In response to DNA damage, cells undergo either cell-cycle arrest or apoptosis, depending on the extent of damage and the cell's capacity for DNA repair. Cell-cycle arrest induced by double-stranded DNA breaks depends on activation of the ataxia-telangiectasia (ATM) protein kinase, which phosphorylates cell-cycle effectors such as Chk2 and p53 to inhibit cell-cycle progression. ATM i...

The phosphatidyl inositol 3-kinase-like kinases (PIKKs), ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) and ATM- and Rad3-related (ATR) regulate parallel damage response signalling pathways. ATM is reported to be activated by DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), whereas ATR is recruited to single-stranded regions of DNA. Although the two pathways were considered to function independently, recent studies have ...

ATM protocols do not implement Hand-off functions that are required to support wireless users. Complementary Signaling solution is proposed to implement handoff functions in an ATM network context to support mobility of wireless users. Complementary Signaling uses switched ATM connections to encapsulate mobility related signaling messages between wireless-to-wire line inter-working nodes at the...
