The surface chemical composition of whole cells and isolated cell walls of four coryneform bacteria and of a Bacillus brevis strain has been determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The XPS data were converted into concentrations of model compounds: peptides, polysaccharides, and hydrocarbonlike compounds. The composition of the surface of B. brevis differed markedly from that of c...
The Li 1s XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) spectra of LiMn2O4, which is one of the major positive-electrode materials in lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, and MnO2 as a reference material, were measured by a laboratory-type XPS spectrometer. The Li 1s peak was not observed in the spectra excited by the Mg Kalpha line (1253.6 eV), because the Li 1s peak overlapped the background of the M...
An ibuprofen tablet was characterized by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The sample fixed to a stainless-steel holder with copper double-sided adhesive tape. Survey spectra, C 1s, O N Si 2p, and Na 1s core level spectra were acquired. results showed the presence of carbon oxygen, elements that are part chemical structure ibuprofen; however, these can also be excipients. In addition, nitrogen,...
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) technique was employed to characterize Al2O3-TiO2 support and MoO3/Al2O3TiO2 catalyst calcined at different temperatures from 773 to 1073 K. The Al2O3-TiO2 (1:1.3 mole ratio) binary oxide support was obtained by a coprecipitation procedure with in situ generated ammonium hydroxide. A nominal 12 wt.% MoO3 was impregnated over the calcined (773 K) support by...
We investigated the high-density CO adsorption phase formed on a Pt(111) surface when exposed to CO gas of pressure ranging from UHV to 100 mTorr using near-ambient-pressure (NAP)-XPS. Combined results from the NAP-XPS measurements and DFT calculations reveal the adsorption structure of CO molecules in the dense CO overlayer, which is stable under realistic conditions.
We present results from high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS) and XPS studies of self-assembled monolayers of DNA. The monolayers are well-organized and display sharp vibrational peaks in the HREEL spectra. The electrons interact mainly with the backbone of the DNA. The XPS results indicate that, in most of the samples studied, the phosphates on the DNA are not charged.
The analysis of Re compounds has revealed a time-dependent photoreduction during x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements. Whilst such reduction of metal ions during XPS analysis is not uncommon, this is the first time that cases specifically for rhenium have been identified in the open literature.
