The use of QuikSCAT data for wind retrievals of tropical cyclones is described. The evidence of QuikSCAT 0 dependence on wind direction for 30-m/s wind speeds is presented. The QuikSCAT 0 show a peak-to-peak wind direction modulation of 1 dB at 35-m/s wind speed, and the amplitude of modulation decreases with increasing wind speed. The decreasing directional sensitivity to wind speed agrees wel...

Wind speed and wind direction indicator in turbine is a very important component the whole power generation system. Inaccurate or incorrect sensor signals will not only make inefficient, but also affect safe operation of life other components. After warranty period, after plant takes over maintenance, maintenance demand above sensors be greatly increased. In this project, numerical simulation u...

A simulation study to assess the potentiality of sea surface wind vector estimation based on the approximation of the forward model through Neural Networks and on the Bayesian theory of parameter estimation is presented. A polarimetric microwave radiometer has been considered and its observations have been simulated by means of the two scale model. To perform the simulations, the atmospheric an...

1 Abstract— Field trials of a 4 meter long, 180 kilogram, unmanned surface vehicle (USV) have been conducted to evaluate the performance of station-keeping heading and position controllers in an outdoor marine environment disturbed by wind and current. The USV has a twin hull configuration and a custom-designed propulsion system, which consists of two azimuthing thrusters, one for each hull. No...

Multiple disasters such as strong wind and torrential rain pose great threats to civil infrastructures. However, most existing studies ignored the dependence structure between them, well effect of direction. From dimension engineering sector, this paper introduces vine copula model joint probability distribution (JPD) speed, direction intensity based on field data in Yangjiang, China during 197...

2. STUDY SITES Abstract A method is presented for the mapping of wind speed over the ocean using satellite (ERS-2 SAR, ENVISAT ASAR) and airborne (E-SAR) synthetic aperture radars. Impacts of a large offshore wind farm on the local wind climate are described quantitatively from the radar measurements. Of particular interest is the magnitude and extent of wakes (i.e. regions of reduced wind spee...

HF radar can be employed to measure sea surface state parameters such as waveheight, wind field and surface current velocity. This paper describes the application of the high frequency ground wave radar in remote sensing the surface conditions over the Eastern China Sea in October, 2000. The radar, referred to as the OSMAR2000, was developed by Wuhan University. Preliminary wave spectra, wavehe...

In this paper, a method for extracting wind parameters from rain-contaminated X-band nautical radar images is presented. The texture of the radar image is first generated based on spatial variability analysis. Through this process, the rain clutter in an image can be removed while the wave echoes are retained. The number of rain-contaminated pixels in each azimuthal direction of the texture is ...
