We use fermion mean field theory to study possible plaquette ordering in the antiferromagnetic SU(4) Heisenberg model. We find the ground state for both the square and triangular lattices to be the disconnected plaquette state. Our mean field theory gives a first order transition for plaquette ordering for the triangular lattice. Our results suggest a large number of low lying states.

We study a spin-1/2 system with Heisenberg plus ring exchanges on a four-leg triangular ladder using the density matrix renormalization group and Gutzwiller variational wave functions. Near an isotropic lattice regime, for moderate to large ring exchanges we find a spin Bose-metal phase with a spinon Fermi sea consisting of three partially filled bands. Going away from the triangular towards th...

We introduce a one-parameter family, 0 # H # 1, of pair potential functions that stabilize a range of vacancy-riddled crystals as ground states. The ‘‘quintic potential’’ is a short-ranged, nonnegative pair potential with a single local minimum of height H at unit distance and which vanishes cubically at a distance of ffiffiffi 3 p . We have developed this potential to produce ground states wit...

We consider walks on a triangular domain that is a subset of the triangular lattice. We then specialise this by dividing the lattice into two directed sublattices with different weights. Our central result is an explicit formula for the generating function of walks starting at a fixed point in this domain and ending anywhere within the domain. Intriguingly, the specialisation of this formula to...

We define a new percolation model by generalising the FK representation of the Ising model, and show that on the triangular lattice and at high temperatures, the critical point in the new model corresponds to the Ising model. Since the new model can be viewed as Bernoulli percolation on a random graph, our result makes an explicit connection between Ising percolation and critical Bernoulli perc...

The q-state Potts model on the triangular lattice with nearest-neighbour interactions and three-site interactions in half of the triangular faces is considered. The exact duality relation is re-examined from the point of view of determining its critical point. Using the continuity and uniqueness arguments we determine the exact critical point in the ferromagnetic model. It is argued that a tran...

Based on first-principles vector spin-density total-energy calculations of the magnetic and electronic structure of Cr and Mn transition-metal monolayers on the triangular lattice of a (111) oriented Cu surface, we propose for Mn a three-dimensional noncollinear spin structure on a two-dimensional triangular lattice as magnetic ground state. This new spin structure is a multiple spin-density wa...

2014 The two-dimensional random Boolean networks suggested by Kauffman have a transition to chaos. We find by Monte Carlo simulation the periods of the limit cycles, both for each site as well as for the lattice as a whole, at the transition point and away from it, for the square lattice. The triangular lattice seems to have the same fractal dimensions as the square lattice. J. Physique 48 (198...

We study a model for itinerant, strongly interacting fermions where a judicious tuning of the interactions leads to a supersymmetric Hamiltonian. On the triangular lattice this model is known to exhibit a property called superfrustration, which is characterized by an extensive ground state entropy. Using a combination of numerical and analytical methods we study various ladder geometries obtain...

The ferroelectric polarization of triangular-lattice antiferromagnets induced by helical spin-spiral order is not explained by any existing model of magnetic-order-driven ferroelectricity. We resolve this problem by developing a general theory for the ferroelectric polarization induced by spin-spiral order and then by evaluating the coefficients needed to specify the general theory on the basis...
