OBJECTIVE To examine the pattern of stroke subtypes found on Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), Kingston, Jamaica. METHOD A retrospective review was conducted for all patients diagnosed with stroke and who were subjected to CT or MRI evaluation at UHWI between January 2001 and December 2004. Data were collected for ...
Rare case of concurrent subarachnoid haemorrhage and ST elevation myocardial infarction, highlighting the importance of detailed history in an emergency.
BACKGROUND Identification of lobar spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage associated with cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is important because it is associated with a higher risk of recurrent intracerebral haemorrhage than arteriolosclerosis-associated intracerebral haemorrhage. We aimed to develop a prediction model for the identification of CAA-associated lobar intracerebral haemorrhage usin...
OBJECTIVES Adhesion molecules are involved in the pathogenesis of cerebral ischaemia and may play a part in the pathophysiology of delayed ischaemic neurological deficit (DIND) after aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage. It was hypothesised that after aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage, adhesion molecules may play a part in the pathophysiology of DIND as reflected by significantly altered serum...
OBJECTIVE To analyse the occurrence and influence on outcome of secondary brain insults during neurointensive care of patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage. METHODS Sixty one seriously ill patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage with a poor neurological grade, acute hydrocephalus, or intraventricular and/or intracerebral haemorrhages, who were referred as emergency cases to the neurosurgical ...
Abstract Aim This study aims to review the literature regarding utility and accuracy of transcranial toppler (TCD) ultrasound in diagnosis cerebral vasospasm (CV) following aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH). Method A systematic was conducted PRISMA guidelines. Pubmed Google Scholar online databases were searched using designated MeSH search terms: “subarachnoid haemorrhage” AND “aneury...
Abstract Introduction There is a need to evaluate the existing guidelines regarding size criteria for risk of rupture intracranial aneurysms. The current understanding that small aneurysms (less than 7 mm) are not at significant according ISUIA 1 & 2 trials. However, there have been several published series and subarachnoid haemorrhage from less 5 mm in both, anterior posterior cerebral cir...
We report the first case of de novo formation a small 4- × 3-mm symptomatic aneurysm with subsequent subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) within 15 days. A pre-existing was excluded by magnetic resonance angiography, as well conventional angiography. In this case, there no history SAH, which is in contrast to other reported cases aneurysms that developed after previous rupture.
