The growth phases of five cultures of antibiotic producing Streptomyces isolated from western region, Saudi Arabia were studied spe. cial reference to their potentiality to excrete antibiotics. It was found that these organisms grew exponentially during the first 4 to 7 days of incubation. The highest specific growth "rate was observed in the case of Streptomyces MY18 being 0.48 day-l (1.44 day...

Streptomyces spp. have the ability to produce a wide variety of secondary metabolites that interact with the environment. This study aimed to discover antifungal volatiles from the genus Streptomyces and to determine the mechanisms of inhibition. Volatiles identified from Streptomyces spp. included three major terpenes, geosmin, caryolan-1-ol and an unknown sesquiterpene. antiSMASH and KEGG pre...

The endoglucanase CelB isolated from culture filtrates of Streptomyces lividans IAF9 has an M(r) of 36,000. With carboxymethyl cellulose as the substrate, the Vmax and Km values are 110 IU/mg of enzyme and 1.3 mg/ml, respectively. Comparison of primary amino acid sequences classifies CelB in the H family of cellulases.

By using the promoter-probe plasmid pIJ424, genomic DNA fragments of Actinomadura R39 were shown to have promoter activity in Streptomyces lividans. The same 100-200-copy-number plasmid was used to clone in S. lividans TK24, the gene that encodes the Actinomadura R39 beta-lactamase. Gene cloning resulted in an amplified expression of the beta-lactamase when compared with the amounts of enzyme p...

Extracellular culture concentrates were prepared from Streptomyces viridosporus T7A, Streptomyces badius 252, and Streptomyces setonii 75Vi2 shake flask cultures. Ten-day-heat-treated (70 degrees C) starch-polyethylene degradable plastic films were incubated with shaking with active or inactive enzyme for 3 weeks (37 degrees C). Active enzyme illustrated changes in the films' Fourier transform ...

We announce the sequencing of Streptomyces chartreusis NRRL 12338 and NRRL 3882 and Streptomyces lysosuperificus ATCC 31396. These are producers of tunicamycins, chartreusins, cephalosporins, holomycins, and calcimycin. The announced genomes, together with the published Streptomyces clavuligerus genome, will facilitate data mining of these secondary metabolites.

during 2 years, from march 1987 to april 1989, 600 samples of soil and plant were collected from different cities of northern provinces of iran. out of the six hundred samples 58 actinomycetes, 9 pseudallescheria boydii, 10 sporothrix schenckii, and 4 sporothrix schenckii-like fungi were isolated as the following: streptomyces griseus from 31 samples (38.27%), nocardia asteroides from 8 samples...

Plantesoil feedbacks are important to productivity and plant community dynamics in both natural and managed ecosystems. Among soil bacteria, the Streptomyces possess particularly strong antagonistic activities and inhibit diverse plant pathogens, offering a clear pathway to involvement in plantesoil feedbacks. We hypothesized that feedback effects and the ability of individual host plant specie...

A spore-forming streptomycete designated strain SUK12(T) was isolated from a Malaysian ethnomedicinal plant. Its taxonomic position, established using a polyphasic approach, indicates that it is a novel species of the genus Streptomyces. Morphological and chemical characteristics of the strain were consistent with those of members of the genus Streptomyces. Analysis of the almost complete 16S r...

Streptomyces hygroscopicus 10-22 could not be transformed with any of the commonly used Streptomyces plasmid vectors and was resistant to plaque formation by the Streptomyces phages phi C31 and R4. Repeated selection resulted in the isolation of derivatives of S. hygroscopicus 10-22 that could be transformed with pIJ101- and pJV1-derived cloning vectors and of restriction-deficient derivatives ...
