Tribulus terrestris L. var. orientalis (Kerner) G. Beck is widely used in the traditional medicine of many countries. Several flavonoides are identified from the plant material. Aerial parts which collected from northeast of Iran are used in this study. Three flavonoid glycosides were isolated and characterized. The flovonoids were found to be based on quercetin...

The extracts of the stem bark of Calophyllum soulattri gave a new pyranocoumarin, soulamarin (1), together with five other xanthones caloxanthone B (2), caloxanthone C (3), macluraxanthone (4), trapezifolixanthone (5) and brasixanthone B (6) one common triterpene, friedelin (7), and the steroidal triterpene stigmasterol (8). The structures of these compounds were established based on spectral e...

Tailed phages with genomes of larger than 200 kbp are classified as Jumbo phages and exhibited extremely high uncharted diversity. The genomic annotation of Jumbo phage is often disappointing because most of the predicted proteins, including structural proteins, failed to make good hits to the sequences in the databases. In this study, 23 proteins of a novel Bacillus Jumbo phage, vB_BpuM_BpSp, ...

Group A streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogenes) is the causative agent of severe invasive infections such as necrotizing fasciitis (the so-called 'flesh eating disease') and toxic-shock syndrome. Spy1600, a glycoside hydrolase from family 84 of the large superfamily of glycoside hydrolases, has been proposed to be a virulence factor. In the present study we show that Spy1600 has no activity towa...

From the methanolic extract of the underground parts of Globularia cordifolia, a new iridoid glycoside, 5-hydroxydavisioside (1) and a new bisiridoid glycoside, globuloside C (2) were isolated along with six known iridoid glycosides, aucubin, melampyroside, monomelittoside, globularifolin, alpinoside and asperuloside. The structures of the isolates were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy...

The techniques of metagenomics have allowed researchers to access the genomic potential of uncultivated microbes, but there remain significant barriers to determination of gene function based on DNA sequence alone. Functional metagenomics, in which DNA is cloned and expressed in surrogate hosts, can overcome these barriers, and make important contributions to the discovery of novel enzymes. In ...

A phytochemical study was conducted on the leaves of Phyllanthus reticulatus obtained from a riverside in Taman Negara Kuala Koh, Kelantan. The separations of the chemical components were carried out using different chromatographic techniques and structures of compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including nuclear magnetic resonance as well as mass spectrometry. Three compounds we...

A new Erythrina alkaloid glycoside, named erythraline-11β-O-glucopyranoside, was isolated from the seeds of Erythrina crista-galli L., together with five known Erythrina alkaloids and an indole alkaloid. The structure of the new alkaloid glycoside was elucidated by spectroscopic methods, and all of the compounds were evaluated for their antiviral activity against tobacco mosaic virus.

Two glycosides were isolated from the n-Butanol soluble portion of the ethanolic portion of the stem and leaves part of stachytarpheta angustifolia. Their structures were elucidated as Iridoid glycoside (1) and a caffeic glycoside ester named as –β(3 1 , 4 1 dihydroxyphenyl)–ethyl-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-3)-β-D-(4-O-Caffeoyl) glucopyranoside (2) by spectroscopic Method.
