Energy dissipation on collisions of grain aggregates is investigated taking into account effects by sintering. It is shown that sintering significantly reduces the energy dissipation efficiency because contacts between adjacent grains become strong by sintering.

ceramic ultrafiltration membranes are considered as an alternative for the treatment of both stable water-in-oil and oil-in-water emulsions proved to be more effective in comparison with other conventional techniques. in this study, symmetric macro-porous ceramic membranes are prepared through dry pressing of α-alumina powder and the addition of various binders including poly (vinyl alcohol). t...

Scale up of microwave sintering for high temperature stable non-oxide ceramics, such as SiC, Si3N4, and dispersion ceramics, like SiC-MoSi2 is still difficult, mainly because of lack of an affordable equipment. For air atmosphere sintering different furnaces were developed, like e.g., gas-microwave hybrid heated tunnel kilns [1] or microwave sintering using an adiabatic casket in tunnel kilns [...

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to compare the optical properties of pre-colored dental monolithic zirconia ceramics of various thicknesses sintered in a microwave and those in a conventional furnace. MATERIALS AND METHODS A2-shade of pre-colored monolithic zirconia ceramic specimens (22.0 mm × 22.0 mm) in 3 thickness groups of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mm were divided into 2 subgroups accordin...

To investigate the effect of sintering temperature and sintering time on arsenic volatility and arsenic leaching in the sinter, we carried out experimental works and studied the structural changes of mineral phases and microstructure observation of the sinter at different sintering temperatures. Raw materials were shaped under the pressure of 10 MPa and sintered at 1000~1350°C for 45 min with a...

We demonstrate that laser peening coupled with sintering of CdTe nanowire films substantially enhances film quality and charge transfer while largely maintaining basic particle morphology. During the laser peening phase, a shockwave is used to compress the film. Laser sintering comprises the second step, where a nanosecond pulse laser beam welds the nanowires. Microstructure, morphology, materi...

The effect of the addition of porcelain fired scraps on the sintering, phase composition and properties of a hard porcelain was studied. Two ceramics were compared: a commercial triaxial porcelain labelled C-0 and one, where 15% of the mass of C-0 was substituted by scraps yielding a composition labelled C-15. The sintering was evaluated by the linear shrinkage, the water absorption and the var...

Sintering of supported metal catalysts is of primary interest in heterogeneous catalysis. The presence of reactant gases, especially oxidants, often accelerates the sintering of supported metal catalysts. Our in situ studies using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) compare the sintering of Au particles supported on TiO2(110) in the presence of CO, O2, or mixtures of the two gases. The results ...

Formation of nano/ultrafine grain structure in AISI 304L austenitic stainless steel through the martensite reversion treatment was studied. The solution annealed specimens were cold rolled up to 95 % thickness reduction at -15°C. The cold-rolled specimens were subjected to reversion annealing treatment at the temperature range of 700-1000 °C for 10–150 min. Microstructural evolutions were analy...
