The first report in the world literature of the condition which is now generally known as idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis was that of Albarran (1905), but the first report in the English language did not appear until that of Ormond (1948). Since then many further case reports have been published, but the aetiology of the condition remains obscure. The disease usually presents as a urologica...
Pleuropulmonary fibrosis is a rare, but well-recognized adverse effect of ergot alkaloids. We report on four patients who developed pleural and/or pulmonary fibrosis during treatment with pergolide and give characteristics of 87 cases with one or more symptoms of serosal fibrosis. Retroperitoneal and pleuropulmonary fibrosis are serious conditions, which are often irreversible after drug withdr...
Erdheim-Chester Disease is a multi-systemic condition characterized by non-Langerhans histiocytic infiltration. Cardiovascular involvement with pseudotumoral infiltration of the right atrium is present in approximately one-third of patients and may be asymptomatic. Although retroperitoneal fibrosis is common, perinephric dystrophic calcification has not been previously described.
We report two cases of unusual ureteric obstruction in patients with an excessive consumption of analgesics. In a retrospective survey of seven cases of non-malignant retroperitoneal fibrosis seen in the last 15 years it was found that four had taken excessive amounts of analgesics. A careful drug history should be taken in all patients with restroperitoneal fibrosis and ureteric obstruction.
the renal pelvis and calyces obtaining special views, could sider the possibility of Erdheim–Chester disease. Another distinctive feature is prominent extension of the fibrotic visualize the stent as an echogenic double-line structure in the renal calyx (Figure 1C) which could have been easily process within the renal pelvis and throughout the renal capsula, while mid-line structures including ...
UNLABELLED The aim of this study is to evaluate effective prognostic factors in the evolution of patients with retroperitoneal fibrosis and to establish the validity of fractal analysis in determining the disease severity in these patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study included 19 patients (M/F: 5/14) treated for idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis and bilateral obstructive renal failure b...
CONTEXT A new clinicopathological concept of IgG4-related sclerosing disease affecting various organs has recently been proposed in relation to autoimmune pancreatitis. This report describes the case of IgG4-related retroperitoneal fibrosis and sclerosing cholangitis independent of autoimmune pancreatitis, which recurred after a long period of spontaneous remission. CASE REPORT An 80-year-old...
A 69-year-old man presented at the hospital with complaints of prolonged stomach pain extending from the week prior. Enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed a low density area in the retroperitoneal space. A radiologist diagnosed the patient with retroperitoneal fibrosis. One week later, an enhanced CT revealed an exponential increase of the low density area and slight right hydronephrosis. ...
