Erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs have been used for treatment of erectile dysfunction which affects the lives of approximately 300 million men worldwide. It is well known that the cytosolic glutathione Stransferase (GST) and glutathione metabolizing enzymes play an important role in the detoxification of many endogenous and exogenous compounds. Therefore, the present study aims at investigating ...

BACKGROUND Recent evidence shows that subjects diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have significantly lower levels of glutathione than typically developing children. The purpose of this study was to examine the use of two commonly used glutathione supplements in subjects diagnosed with an ASD to determine their efficacy in increasing blood glutathione levels in subjects diagnosed w...

Abstract Sulfur dioxide is the most used additive today for preventing browning in grape musts and wines. However, since wine consumers are increasingly interested healthier wines, industry keen to reduce its use. Some promising alternatives sulfur have been proposed recent years, including glutathione, both pure form of inactivated yeasts, Metschnikowia pulcherrima as a bioprotective agent. in...

The results of studies the level biomarkers oxidative stress and antioxidant system in children with Crohn’s disease ulcerative colitis are presented. relationship between nosology feature redox imbalance was demonstrated, which proved by a significant difference reduced glutathione erythrocytes groups subjects. Children have lower erythrocyte compared to patients colitis. This pattern can be e...

Studies on the specificity and mechanism of action of hepatic glutathione-insulin transhydrogenase, an enzyme capable of catalyzing the reductive cleavage of the disulfide bonds of insulin in the presence of excess reduced glutathione, have been carried out. By coupling reactions catalyzed by glutathione-insulin transhydrogenase to that of glutathione reductase, it was indicated that during the...

The active site cysteine of pig liver thioltransferase was identified as Cys22. The kinetics of the reaction between Cys22 of the reduced enzyme and iodoacetic acid as a function of pH revealed that the active site sulfhydryl group had a pKa of 2.5. Incubation of reduced enzyme with [1-14C]cysteine prevented the inactivation of the enzyme by iodoacetic acid at pH 6.5, and no stable protein-cyst...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES The transient myocardial ischemia that occurs during cardiac surgery leads to oxidative stress and the production of free radicals. The resulting damage can be reduced if cardiopulmonary bypass is avoided. We obtained indirect measures of the oxidative damage occurring during cardiac surgery by monitoring the glutathione system and we studied the influence of cardiop...

Glycation and lipid peroxidation are spontaneous reactions believed to contribute to the pathogenesis of nephrotic syndrome. Possible interrelations of glycated hemoglobin with reduced glutathione and malondialdehyde were evaluated in nephrotic syndrome patients. Eighteen nephrotic syndrome patients and 15 healthy controls were enrolled for this study. Glycated hemoglobin, reduced glutathione, ...

Halothane and enflurane administration increased the plasma GSH-Px activity and reduced zinc levels. In addition, they lowered SOD and GSH-Px activities and trace element levels on erythrocytes. Isoflurane had no effect on plasma antioxidant enzymes, but, similar to the other, isoflurane decreased the plasma zinc levels, erythrocyte SOD and GSH-Px activities and trace element levels.
