A vapor-induced cyclization has been observed in the host environment of a crystalline molecular flask (CMF), within which 1,8-bis(2-phenylethynyl)naphthalene (bpen), a diarenynyl system primed for cyclization, was exposed to iodine vapor to yield the corresponding indeno[2,1-α]phenalene species. The cyclization process, unique in its vapor-induced, solvent-free nature, was followed spectroscop...

The synthesis of a variety of 2,3-disubstituted quinolines has been achieved successfully via a one-pot three-component reaction of arylamines, arylaldehydes and aliphatic aldehydes in the presence of butylpyridinium tetrachloroindate(III), [bpy][InCl4], ionic liquid as a green catalyst and solvent. Mild conditions with excellent conversions, and simple product isolation procedure are noteworth...

Multicomponent hydrogels offer a tremendous opportunity for preparing useful and exciting materials that cannot be accessed using single component. Here, we describe an unusual multi-component low-molecular weight gelling system exhibits pH-responsive behavior involving cooperative hydrogen bonding between the components, allowing it to maintain gel phase across wide pH range. Unlike traditiona...

A convenient one-pot preparation of 2-methyl-3-(phenylthiomethyl)quinolines from Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts via conjugate addition of thiols followed by reductive cyclization with Fe/AcOH was developed. The 2-methyl-3-(phenylthiomethyl)quinolines were transformed into 2-methyl-3-(phenylsulfonylmethyl)quinolines via m-CPBA-mediated oxidation.

The complexation reaction between iodine and 1,10-Diaza-18-Crown-6 (DA18C6) has been studied in acetonitrile by spectrophotometric, biamperometric and conductometric techniques. The results are indicative of the formation of [(CH3CH)nI+.I¯3] from iodine and acetonitrile, and the formation of DA18C6 I+. I¯ from DA18C6 and [(CH...

Biaryl compounds are versatile building blocks in the synthesis of natural products, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals and π-conjugated organic materials. This review describes a recent progress for the biaryl cross-coupling reaction of heteroaromatic compounds using hypervalent iodine reagent. Our novel biaryl coupling reaction is a unique method for constructing various heteroaromatic b...

Direct alkylation of indoles and amines by tertiary enamides for the synthesis of pharmaceutically active 2-oxo-1-pyrrolidine analogues was described. With only a 0.5 mol% catalyst loading, molecular iodine was demonstrated to be efficiently enough to promote the reaction under neat condition. Only Markovnikov addition product was obtained indicating that the reactions proceeded with excellent ...

The reaction of 3-alkynyl-4-methoxycoumarins with molecular iodine in chlorinated solvents allows access to 3-iodofurochromones in good to excellent yields as the result of a iodocyclization-demethylation process. Competitive diiodination of the coumarin acetylene moiety could be eliminated by simply performing the reactions in refluxing 1,2-dichloroethane, owing to the thermal instability of t...

The title compound, C(7)H(7)ClN(2)O(4)S, is of inter-est as a precursor to biologically active substituted quinolines. Its structure resembles those of the previously reported N-phenyl-methane sulfonamide and its 4-nitro, 4-fluoro and 4-bromo derivatives, with slightly different geometric parameters. An intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond gives rise to a six-membered ring. Inter-molecular C-H⋯O...
