Pantoea vagans is a Gram-negative enterobacterial plant epiphyte of a broad range of plants. Here we report the 4.89-Mb genome sequence of P. vagans strain C9-1 (formerly Pantoea agglomerans), which is commercially registered for biological control of fire blight, a disease of pear and apple trees caused by Erwinia amylovora.

Conventional methods of pear breeding, largely based on intra- and inter-specific hybridization, are difficult because pear is highly heterozygous, polygenic and has a long juvenile period. Genetic improvements of pear cultivars are possible through induction of mutations and gene transfer by genetic engineering. A general prerequisite for these approaches is to establish an efficient plant reg...

Abstract Fire blight is a devastating disease of apple, pear and quince caused by the Gram-negative bacterium Erwinia amylovora . As antibiotics are not allowed against fire in Switzerland, optimization alternative plant protection strategies required. In this context, tolerant cultivars become higher importance to control disease. A product efficacy trial with susceptible cultivar ‘Gala Galaxy...

Erwinia amylovora is the causal agent of fire blight, a devastating disease affecting some plants of the Rosaceae family. We isolated bacteriophages from samples collected from infected apple and pear trees along the Wasatch Front in Utah. We announce 19 high-quality complete genome sequences of E. amylovora bacteriophages.

Water pollution due to release of industrial wastewater has already become a serious problem in almost every industry using dyes to color its products. In this work, polyphenol oxidase enzyme from quince (Cydonia Oblonga) leaves immobilized on calcium alginate beads was used for the successful and effective decolorization of textile industrial effluent. Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzyme was extra...

Two new species belonging to the family Stigmaeidae, Cheylostigmaeus tarae sp. nov. and Stigmaeus delaramae sp. nov., are described from specimens collected from soil and litter under pear trees, Pyrus communis L. (Rosaceae) in Iran. A key to all Iranian species of the genera Cheylostigmaeus (male) and Stigmaeus (female) are provided.

Pear is one of the most important fruit species grown in temperate zones globe. Besides production, pear are highly valued forestry and agroforestry systems; landscaping, as ornamental features; fruits ecological value, other areas. The Pyrus species, obtained from a gene bank, were evaluated for different morphological traits trees, leaves, flowers, fruits, well their responses to attacks prin...
