Background: In earlier experiments the role of the vacuum fields could be demonstrated as the source of complementarity with respect to the temporal properties (Heuer et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 114:053601, 2015). Methods: Single photon first order interferences of spatially separated regions from the cone structure of spontaneous parametric down conversion allow for analyzing the role of the mode...

We propose schemes for the generation of d-level quantum states qudits and quantum entangled states of N qudits by adopting the polarization degree of freedom of photons. Arbitrary qudits can be prepared by putting d−1 identical and independent photons each with a given polarization into a single spatial and temporal mode. Then, by using N such qudits, linear optics, and proper projection measu...
This paper provides a theoretical background for the simulations of particular quantum optics experiments, namely, photon intensity correlation measurements. A practical example, adapted to polarisation-entangled photon pairs emitted from a quantum dot, is presented. The tool, a virtual Hanbury Brown and Twiss correlator, simulates polarisation-resolved the second-order correlation functions, w...
Dissociation of a molecular dimer produces two quantum mechanically entangled atoms with equal and opposite momenta in the molecule’s rest frame. These atoms have Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen type correlations [1], and hence are of fundamental interest. It is possible to produce Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) of molecules, and then to dissociate them as in Ref. [2], so that these correlations may ...
Quantum technologies based on photons will likely require an integrated optics architecture for improved performance, miniaturization, and scalability. We demonstrate high-fidelity silica-on-silicon integrated optical realizations of key quantum photonic circuits, including two-photon quantum interference with a visibility of 94.8 +/- 0.5%; a controlled-NOT gate with an average logical basis fi...
We show that universal quantum logic can be achieved using only linear optics and a quantum shutter device. With these elements, we design a quantum memory for any number of qubits and a CNOT gate which are the basis of a universal quantum computer. An interaction-free model for a quantum shutter is given.
We outline the main research lines in Nonlinear and Quantum Optics of the Group of Photonics and Quantum Information at the University of Valladolid. These works focus on Optical Solitons, Quantum Information using Photonic Technologies and the development of new materials for Nonlinar Optics. The investigations on optical solitons cover both temporal solitons in dispersion managed fiber links ...
The turn of the century has brought new perspectives for teaching Quantum Optics. Recent research results provide opportunities to educate specialists in the area with considerable less efforts than in the recent past. Important experiments can now be performed using cheaper optical sources. Full quantum electrodynamics approaches are often simpler to understand, and indeed more comprehensive t...
