The amide group is twisted by 7.4 (1)° from the plane of the pyrrole ring. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into chains extending along the c axis.

The title compound, C(10)H(11)N(3)O(3), was synthesized by the reaction of 3,5-bis-(ethoxy-carbon-yl)-2-formyl-4-methyl-1H-pyrrole and hydrazine hydrate. The angle between the pyrrole ring and the pyridazinone ring is 0.93 (9)°. In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H⋯O and N-H⋯N hydrogen-bond inter-actions link the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional network.

A novel 3,4,4a-trihydroxanthene-fused pyrrole 2 was synthesized by the reaction of 2,3,4,4a-tetrahydro-1H-xanthen-1-one with 3-phenyl-2H-azirine in the presence of LDA. Utilizing this pyrrole 2, a NIR BODIPY 1 (λ(abs) = 732 nm, λ(em) = 747 nm) has been prepared. The new BODIPY 1 was stable, non-cytotoxic, and suited to labeling living cells for imaging assay in the NIR region.
