Postoperative vomiting or feeding intolerance in EA is more common which is due to esophageal stricture, gastroesophageal reflux and esophageal dysmotility. Jaundice associated with hypertrophic pyloric stenosis was recognised in three patients; previous reports have suggested that this is a possible early manifestation of Gilbert syndrome. Most patients with Gilbert syndrome are homozygous for a (TA)(7)TAA polymorphism in the gene promoter coding for bilirubin glucuronosyltransferase. Two of the reported patients were homozygous for the (TA)(7)TAA...

A palpable tumour which contracts and relaxes is generally accepted as conclusive confirmatory evidence of symptoms and signs suggestive of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis in infancy. Common difficulties in performing the examination and tips to help ov...

A prospective study of abdominal ultrasound was undertaken in 100 consecutive infants who presented with a history of persistent vomiting aged 5 to 90 days. Each infant had a 'test feed' followed by an ultrasonographic scan of the pylorus at the cotside. On test feeding a palpable tumour was evident in 38 infants. On real time ultrasound using the criteria for diagnosing pyloric stenosis, these...

Gallbladder cancer (GBC), duodenal diverticula, annular pancreas and superior mesenteric artery syndrome (Wilkie's syndrome) are rare causes of pyloric duodenal stenosis. The case of a 66-year-old female patient is presented. The patient was admitted to hospital presenting anorexia, r...

Administration of pentagastrin in depot form to 20 pregnant bitches produced pyloric hypertrophy in about 28% and gastroduodenal ulceration in about 16% of their pups. The two lesions were not necessarily found in the same individuals. Histological appearances of the pylorus in affected pups closely resembled those of human infantile pyloric stenosis.

A sonographic examination revealed a concentric pyloric stenosis, with antral palsy and ascites. The endoscopy confirmed the diagnosis of eosinophilic infiltration of the pylorum. After a short course of systemic steroids, the patient was switched to...
