Throughout we let (T,m, k) denote a commutative Noetherian local ring with maximal ideal m and residue field k. We let I ⊆ T be an ideal generated by a regular sequence of length c and set R := T/I. In the important paper [A], Avramov addresses the following question. Given a finitely generated R-module M , when does M have finite projective dimension over a ring of the form T/J , where J is ge...

Let R be a noetherian ring and M a finite R-module. With a linear form χ on M one associates the Koszul complex K(χ). If M is a free module, then the homology of K(χ) is well-understood, and in particular it is grade sensitive with respect to Imχ. In this note we investigate the case of a module M of projective dimension 1 (more precisely, M has a free resolution of length 1) for which the firs...

For a Noetherian local ring, the prime ideals in the singular locus completely determine the category of finitely generated modules up to direct summands, extensions and syzygies. From this some simple homological criteria are derived for testing whether an arbitrary module has finite projective dimension.
