Markov chains are widely used in the context of performance and reliability evaluation of systems of various nature. Model checking of such chains with respect to a given (branching) temporal logic formula has been proposed for both the discrete [8] and the continuous time setting [1], [3]. In this short paper, we describe the prototype model checker E T MC for discrete and continuous-time Mark...

the purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between fear of negative evaluation (fne) and communication strategies (css) among iranian efl learners. it was aimed to examine the differences in the use of communication strategies between speakers with high or low degree of fear of negative evaluation. the current study was a case study consisting of 10 english learners at...

Various algorithms have been proposed to evaluate the performance of large scale and time-dependent systems. Probabilistic approaches based on computer experiments have been shown to be more efficient than classical approaches such as Monte-Carlo simulations for a various number of practical cases. This article thus gives an overview of the latest trends in the field, applied to the performance...

In this paper, we introduce a new approach to evaluate and visualize the classifier performance in two-class imbalanced domains. This method defines a two-dimensional space by combining the geometric mean of class accuracies and a new metric that gives an indication of how balanced they are. A given point in this space represents a certain trade-off between those two measures, which will be exp...

This paper describes the main retrieval problems when facing with blogs. Using the classical tf idf vector-space model together with three probabilistic and one statistical language model, we evaluate them using a TREC test-collections composed of 100 topics. Using two performance measures, we show that ignoring a stemming approach results in a better performance than other indexing strategies ...

Distance education has grown in importance with the advent of the internet. An adequate evaluation of students in this mode is still difficult. Distance tests or occasional on-site exams do not meet the needs of evaluation of the learning process for distance education. Bayesian networks are adequate for simulating several aspects of clinical reasoning. The possibility of integrating them in di...

Home-based consistency model, a variant of lazy release consistency model (LRC), is a recent development in the DSM field that has open out many areas for further research and development. In this paper, we present 2 adaptive schemes for home-based DSM systems: home migration and dynamic adaptation between write-invalidation and writeupdate protocols. The two fully automatic schemes are in line...

We reproduce recent research results combining semantic and information retrieval methods. Additionally, we expand the existing state of the art by combining the semantic representations with IR methods from the probabilistic relevance framework. We demonstrate a significant increase in performance, as measured by standard evaluation metrics.
