Time-dependent photoluminescence (PL) enhancement, blue shift, and photobleach were observed from the thiol-capped CdTe quantum dots (QDs) ingested in mouse myoblast cells and human primary liver cancer cells. It was revealed that the PL blue shift resulted from the photooxidation of the QD core by singlet oxygen molecules formed on the QD core surface.

Described is a continuous, divergent synthesis system which is coupled to continuous purification and is capable of producing four anti-malarial APIs. The system is comprised of three linked reaction modules for photooxidation/cyclization, reduction, and derivatization. A fourth module couples the crude reaction stream with continuous purification to yield pure API.

Covered with Pt: A uniform catalyst profile that ensures effective radial charge collection from high-aspect-ratio Si nanowires was achieved by atomic layer deposition of Pt nanoparticles. The resulting photoelectrode permits the measurement of high photovoltages and low overpotentials, and leads to very good stability against photooxidation of Si nanowires in solar water-reduction reactions.

The direct synthesis of α-bromoketones from alkylarenes by aerobic photooxidation with hydrobromic acid is reported. The key success for this direct oxidative reaction is due to control of bromination with acetic acid and ethanol, which are generated in situ by solvolysis of ethyl acetate in the course of the reaction.
