We investigate the dispersion curves of coupled waveguides in hexagonal lattices. We show that hexagonal PCW lattices have coupling coefficients that change magnitude and sign along the BZ. It is also shown that the modes of these structures no longer form odd and even modes but are superposed in a more general sense. We theoretically investigate the tuning of Photonic band gaps in one dimensional photonic crystals based on Nano composite of silver nanoparticle embedded in SiO2 by applying electric field. In addition, the tuning can be done by considering the filling fraction and the radius of the nanoparticle. The evolution of these results to provide new possibilities of designing the desired photonic crys...

We report the fabrication and characterization of a new type all-solid photonic bandgap fiber. By introducing an index depressed layer around the high-index rod in the unit cell of photonic crystal cladding, transmission loss as low as 2 dB/km within the first bandgap is realized for the all-solid photonic bandgap fiber with a bandwidth of over 700 nm. The bend loss experiment shows that the ph...

We report laser micro-fabrication of photonic crystal structures in silica glass and photopolymerizing resins, and present a detailed analysis of their structural and optical properties. Photonic crystals with 2D triangular lattice and 3D diamond lattice in glass are found to exhibit moderately pronounced photonic pseudogaps. Formation of planar microcavity is demonstrated in log-pile 3D photon...

Recent technological progress in the generation, manipulation and detection of individual single photons has opened a new scientific field of photonic quantum information. This progress includes the realization of single photon switches, photonic quantum circuits with specific functions, and the application of novel photonic states to novel optical metrology beyond the limits of standard optics...

This work presents the results of computer modeling and experimental measurements of microwave transmission properties for one-dimensional periodic multi-layered photonic structures (PCs), composed of epoxy layers and composite layers filled with nanocarbon particles-multi-walled carbon nanotubes and graphite nanoplatelets. The results show that the characteristics of observed photonic band gap...

We describe a novel scheme based on evanescent guided-wave coupling for optically interfacing between conventional fiber-optic and planar photonic crystal devices such as waveguides and resonant cavities. By considering the band structure of bulk photonic crystal slabs, we analyze the k space properties of a linear defect waveguide and establish a set of design rules to ensure efficient evanesc...

Extreme photon localization is applicable to constructing building blocks in photonic systems and quantum information systems. A finding fact that photon localization in small space modifies the radiation process was reported in 1944 by Purcell, and advances in fabrication technology enable such structures to be constructed at optical frequencies. Many demands of building compact photonic syste...

Optimal control experiments can readily identify effective shaped laser pulses, or "photonic reagents," that achieve a wide variety of objectives. An important additional practical desire is for photonic reagent prescriptions to produce good, if not optimal, objective yields when transferred to a different system or laboratory. Building on general experience in chemistry, the hope is that trans...
