We present here the first complete Bean common mosaic necrosis virus (BCMNV) genomic sequence isolated from virus-infected common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) in East Timor, and compare it with six complete BMCNV genomes from the Netherlands, and one each from the United States, Tanzania, and an unspecified country. It most resembled the Netherlands strain NL-8 genome.
Alkaline phytase activity, with a pH optimum of 8, was recovered from detergent extracts of dormant seeds of nine varieties of Phaseolus vulgaris L., Pisum sativum L. var. Early Alaska, and Medicago sativa L. This alkaline phytase of legume seeds was activated by calcium and differed from most seed phytases in its relative insensitivity to inhibition by fluoride.
A glasshouse experiment was conducted with plants of Phaseolus grown in liquid culture. Root growth parameters (biomass, diameter, length, growth rate, zone of cell division), root rheological components (wall extensibility, water potential yield threshold, water potential), shoot growth, carbon allocation, and abscisic acid (ABA) concentration were measured in Phaseolus acutifolius A. Gray at ...
A pulse of blue light induced both a transient increase in activity of apoplastic K+ and membrane depolarization in laminar pulvinus of Phaseolus vulgaris L. This shows that blue-light-induced net efflux of K+ from motor cells is closely related to membrane depolarization.
Rhizobium esperanzae CNPSo 668T is a nitrogen-fixing symbiont of Phaseolus vulgaris isolated from Mexican soils. Its genome is estimated at 6,294,057 bp, with 6,219 coding sequences (CDSs) showing higher similarity (92.9%) with Rhizobium etli Three copies of the regulatory nodD, in addition to other nodulation genes, should define its host specificity.
The digestibility of proteins in red kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was examined by in vitro pepsin assay. A 20-kDa polypeptide that remained highly stable after heat processing was identified as a basic subunit of legumin. The results of a monobromobimane (mBBr) labeling test implied that this protein contained rigid intramolecular disulfide bonds, which might contribute to pepsin resista...
Uni-2, a dominant mutation that affects leaf development in Phaseolus vulgaris, is described. The mutant type is characterized by the production of unifoliolate true leaves as opposed to the trifoliolate true leaves that characterize the wild-type phenotype of this species. Segregation data from the F2, F3, and F4 generations of crosses between the unifoliolate mutant and trifoliolate genotypes...
Here, we aim to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the most significant outcomes in the literature regarding the origin of Phaseolus genus, the geographical distribution of the wild species, the domestication process, and the wide spread out of the centers of origin. Phaseolus can be considered as a unique model for the study of crop evolution, and in particular, for an understa...
The anterograde transport and immunohistochemical demonstration of the lectin, Phaseolus vulgaris-leucoagglutinin (PHA-L) has been used to label thalamocortical axon terminals in barrels of mouse SmI cortex. The reaction product is visible with both the light and electron microscopes so that the distribution of axons and the types of synapses they form can be determined.
