Abstract: In this paper we consider the classical binary hypothesis testing problem where the iid samples are obtained through a channel. Our goal is to study the relationship between the channel capacity and the goodness of the estimation measured by the Chernoff information in order to get an upper bound on the estimation performances as well as some insight on the structure of the optimal ch...

Evaluation of wireless networks for performance evaluation is a popular research area and a wealth of literature exists in this area. Wireless networks in infrastructure mode as well as Ad-hoc networks such as MANETs are considered extensively. Simulation results are provided for E-learning scenarios for cases where wireless networks in infrastructure mode are employed, however the possibilitie...

In this work we study a hybrid local search algorithm for the solution of timetabling problems, and we undertake a systematic statistical study of the relative influence of the relevant features on the performances of the algorithm. In particular, we apply statistical methods for the design and analysis of experiments. This work is still ongoing, and its ultimate objective is to develop a proce...

in most industrial zones, electric energy is one of the most important energy sources. since electrical motors are the main energy consumers of industrial factories, consumption optimization in these motors can be considered as a main option related to energy saving. one very effective way to reduce the consumption of these equipment is to use a motor speed controllers or drives. since the loss...

The present study is concerned with the simultaneous optimization of the size of components and the arrangement of connections for performance-based seismic design of low-rise SPSWs. Design variables include the size of beams and columns, the thickness of the infill panels, the type of each beam-to-column connection and the type of each infill-to-boundary frame connection. The objective functio...

suspension system as one of the most important key elements of vehicle has always been considered by research centres and auto makers over the world and this issue is more important on sport cars which have special sensitive working conditions and even the smallest defect can strongly affect their performances. in this study, optimization of effective handling parameters of a sport car with thr...

Global optimization methods play an important role to solve many real-world problems. Flower pollination algorithm (FP) is a new nature-inspired algorithm, based on the characteristics of flowering plants. In this paper, a new hybrid optimization method called hybrid flower pollination algorithm (FPPSO) is proposed. The method combines the standard flower pollination algorithm (FP) with the par...

Fifty years ago, the optimization of thermoelectric devices was analyzed by considering the relation between optimal performances and local entropy production. Entropy is produced by the irreversible processes in thermoelectric devices. If these processes could be eliminated, entropy production would be reduced to zero, and the limiting Carnot efficiency or coefficient of performance would be o...

A new theoretical/empirical model has been developed for performance prediction of hard rock TBMs. The model uses information on the rock properties and cutting geometry to calculate TBM rate of penetration. The model can also be used for TBM butterhead design optimization to achieve maximum performance in a given geology.
