One of the most well-known naturally occurring environmental heavy metals, lead (Pb) has been reported to cause liver injury and cellular apoptosis by disturbing the prooxidant-antioxidant balance via oxidative stress. Several studies, on the other hand, reported that mangiferin, a naturally occurring xanthone, has been used for a broad range of therapeutic purposes. In the present study, we, t...

In the title compound, [Pb(C14H14O2PS2)2] n , the metal atom is surrounded by two O,O'-bis-(2-methyl-phen-yl) dithio-phosphate ligands bonding through the S-donor atoms. Three of the Pb-S bond lengths are are close to each other at 2.7710 (18), 2.8104 (16) and 2.8205 (16) Å, while the fourth Pb-S bond is elongated at 3.0910 (18) Å and reflects the fact that this atom is involved in inter-molecu...

The distribution of aqueous Pb(II) sorbed at the interface between Burkholderia cepacia biofilms and hematite (alpha-Fe(2)O(3)) or corundum (alpha-Al(2)O(3)) surfaces has been probed by using an application of the long-period x-ray standing wave technique. Attached bacteria and adsorbed organic matter may interfere with sorption processes on metal oxide surfaces by changing the characteristics ...

In the title compound, [Pb(C(10)H(11)O(2))(2)](n) or [Pb(hino)(2)](n), the lead(II) ion is chelated by two hinokitiolate ligands in a distorted square-pyramidal configuration, with Pb-O bond lengths in the range 2.327 (6)-2.479 (9) Å. The 6s(2) lone electron pair of the lead(II) ion becomes stereochemically active and is directed towards the apex of this pyramid. The crystal structure of the ti...

We report here a series of heteroatom-substituted macrocycles containing an anthraquinone moiety as a fluorescent signaling unit and a cyclic polyheteroether chain as the receptor. Sulfur, selenium, and tellurium derivatives of 1,8-anthraquinone-18-crown-5 (1) were synthesized by reacting sodium sulfide (Na2S), sodium selenide (Na2Se) and sodium telluride (Na2Te) with 1,8-bis(2-bromoethylethyle...

In this research, traditional macroscopic studies were complemented with XAS analyses to elucidate the mechanisms controlling Pb(II) sorption onto ferrihydrite as a function of pH, ionic strength, and adsorbate concentrations. Analyses of XANES and XAFS studies demonstrate that Pb(II) ions predominantly sorb onto ferrihydrite via inner-sphere complexation, not retaining their primary hydration ...

The interaction between some heavy metal ions such as of Pb(II), Cd(II) and Cu(II) ions from aqueous solution adsorbed by single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNTs) and carboxylate group functionalized single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT-COOH) surfaces were studied by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The effect of contact time, pH, initial concentration of ion, ionic strength and temperature on the...

In the title compound, [PbBr(2)(C(14)H(12)N(2))](n), the Pb(II) atom lies on a twofold rotation axis. The N-heterocycle-chelated Pb(II) atom exists in a distorted octa-hedral geometry owing to two long Pb⋯Br inter-actions [2.9562 (5) and 3.2594 (5) Å]. These result in a zigzag chain running along the c axis. The lone pair is stereochemically inactive.

In the title structure, [Pb(C(5)H(3)N(2)O(2))(2)](n), the Pb(II) ion is six-coordinated by two pyridazine-3-carboxyl-ate ligands via N and O atoms, with the carboxyl-ato O atoms acting as bidentate and bridging adjacent Pb(II) ions, giving rise to catenated mol-ecular ribbons propagating along the a-axis direction. The ribbons are connected by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and van der Waals inter-actions.
