The size and shape of the treatment fields applied in radiotherapy account for uncertainties in the daily set-up of the patients during the treatment. We investigated the accuracy of daily patient positioning in the bellyboard pelvic radiotherapy in order to find out the magnitude of the patients movement during the treatment. Translational as well as rotational movements of the patients are ex...

Maintaining patient safety in the operating room is a major concern of surgeons, hospitals and surgical facilities. Circumventing preventable complications is essential, and pressure to avoid these complications in cosmetic surgery is increasing. Traditionally, nursing and anesthesia staff have managed patient positioning and safety issues in the operating room. As the number of office-based pr...

PURPOSE To minimize the mismatch error between patient surface and immobilization system for tumor location by a noninvasive patient setup method. MATERIALS AND METHODS The method, based on a point set registration, proposes a shift for patient positioning by integrating information of the computed tomography scans and that of optical surface landmarks. An evaluation of the method included 3 ...

The synergy between in-room imaging and optical tracking, in co-operation with highly accurate robotic patient handling represents a concept for patient-set-up which has been implemented at CNAO (Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica). In-room imaging is based on a double oblique X-ray projection system; optical tracking consists of the detection of the position of spherical markers placed...

We present a female patient with central positioning nystagmus and vertigo (c-PPV) due to a pontine stroke. To our knowledge this is the first report of central upbeat positioning nystagmus caused by pontine lacunar stroke. This report, together with those published previously, supports the existence of a crossing ventral tegmental tract in humans.

PURPOSE The objective of our trial was to obtain more comprehensive data on the risks and benefits of kinetic therapy in intensive care patients with intracerebral pathology. METHODS Standardized data of prone positioning in our NeuroIntensive Care Unit were collected from 2007 onward. A post hoc analysis of all available data was undertaken, with special consideration given to values of intr...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Knowledge of the common radiographic errors and their prevention could prevent imposing redundant radiation, time and money to patient and the dentist. The aim of this study was to assess the common radiographic errors on panoramic radiographs in a radiology department. MATERIALS AND METHODS 250 panoramic radiographs (100 male and 150 female; mean age, 24.3) taken at the D...
