We review how our current understanding of the light element synthesis during the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis era may help shed light on the identity of particle dark matter.

Dark matter is presumably made of some new, exotic particle that appears in extensions of the Standard Model. After giving a brief overview of some popular candidates, I discuss in more detail the most appealing case of the supersymmetric neutralino.

Among the light nuclear clusters the α-particle is by far the strongest bound system and therefore expected to play a significant role in the dynamics of nuclei and the phases of nuclear matter. To systematically study the properties of the α-particle we have derived an effective four-body equation of the AltGrassberger-Sandhas (AGS) type that includes the dominant medium effects, i.e. self ene...

The MERIS aerosol remote sensing over ocean is available and over land has been improved for a better spatial coverage. Air quality monitoring of the particles is based on in situ measurements of PM10 and PM2.5 which are respectively the density of particles of diameter lesser than 10 μm, lesser than 2.5 μm, at the surface. In order to promote the use of Earth Observation, we would like to conv...

I discuss some compelling suggestions about particles which could be the dark matter in the universe, with special attention to experimental searches for them. This is the write-up of a talk given at a conference where I was probably the only particle physicist. My task was to give an overview of one area of cosmology which has a symbiotic relation with particle physics — viz., the candidates f...

The successful quasi-particle model is compared with recent lattice data of the coefficients in the Taylor series expansion of the excess pressure at finite temperature and baryon density. A chain of approximations, starting from QCD to arrive at the model expressions for the entropy density, is presented.

The particle dynamics and shear forces of granular matter in a Couette geometry are determined experimentally. The normalized tangential velocity V(y) declines strongly with distance y from the moving wall, independent of the shear rate and of the shear dynamics. Local rms velocity fluctuations deltaV(y) scale with the local velocity gradient to the power 0.4+/-0.05. These results agree with a ...

Cold primordial particle dark matter forms with a distribution in six-dimensional phase space closely approximating a three-dimensional sheet. Folds in the mapping of this sheet onto configuration space create ubiquitous sheetlike caustics (“micropancakes”). A typical WIMP dark matter halo has many micropancakes, each with a scale comparable to the halo itself, a width about 10 of the halo size...

In most of particle dark matter (DM) models, the DM candidate injects sizable fluxes of high-energy electrons and positrons through its annihilations or decays. Emitted in regions with magnetic field, they in turn give raise to a synchrotron radiation, which typically covers radio and infrared bands. We discuss the possibility of detecting signatures of Galactic and extra-galactic DM in the tot...
