A large, partly pedunculated mass on the scapular area of a wild-caught captive Brown-headed Cowbird (Molothrus ater) consisted of a multiloculated keratin cyst inhabited by a new species of harpirhynchid mite (Harpirhynchus quasimodo). The mass did not interfere with flight or behavior. This is the first record of such an infestation of cowbirds in Florida.

Cyst nematodes are highly evolved sedentary plant endoparasites that use parasitism proteins injected through the stylet into host tissues to successfully parasitize plants. These secretory proteins likely are essential for parasitism as they are involved in a variety of parasitic events leading to the establishment of specialized feeding cells required by the nematode to obtain nourishment. Wi...

Neurocysticercosis is the most common parasitic infection of the central nervous system in humans. The adult pork tape worm, Taenia solium, resides in the lumen of the intestine, and the only structural element of an adult worm usually found within a tissue cyst in the brain or in muscle is a single invaginated scolex. We report a highly unusual, and perhaps unique, occurrence of neurocysticerc...

A heterogeneous cystic lesion in the body of the pancreas was identified on magnetic resonance imaging of a patient prev...

I read the recent article by Basu et al(1) with a great interest. The authors described an interesting case of ocular cysticercosis manifesting with ptosis. Indeed, ocular cysticercosis is not a rare disease in the developing countries, and ptosis due to cysticercosis is sporadically reported. Sekhar et al reported that subconjunctival cyst might be related to ptosis and suggested that the surg...

Simple hepatic cysts are a relatively common radiological finding. These cysts may be classified as parasitic and non-parasitic. They are usually asymptomatic, but may cause symptoms due to local compression. These compressive complications include: portal hypertension, edema due to caval compression, extrinsic gastric compression and duodenal compression with obstruction. However, no reports in...
