The eye’s intricate anatomical barriers pose significant challenges to the penetration, residence time, and bioavailability of topically applied medications, particularly in managing uveitis neuro-ophthalmologic conditions. Addressing this issue, polymeric nano-based drug delivery systems (DDS) have surfaced as a promising solution. These enhance hard-to-reach target tissues, extend time within...

Traveling to high altitudes can expose the eye to reduced ambient cold and low-pressure environments. These conditions can affect the physiology of the eye and may result in ocular problems and visual disturbances. In this paper, ocular disorders related to high altitudes are briefly reviewed. Then, high-altitude ocular disorders are categorized in three parts: those related to dry and cold env...

According to military documents, the incidence of ocular injuries significantly increases. Intraocular foreign body (IOFB) is one of the ocular damages that seriously threats vision. Many ocular injuries occurred in a war between Iran and Iraq from 1980 to 1988. The aim of the present study was to review ocular damages made by IOFB in this war, different methods of treatment and their prognosis.

Glaucoma is a chronic eye disease and the second most leading cause of irreversible impaired vision in world, which primarily linked with high intraocular pressure (IOP). The treatment glaucoma currently challenging because innate mechanics ocular barriers that limit penetration ophthalmic drugs. To tackle this, various carriers (inorganic-, polymeric-, hydrogel-, or contact lens–based) special...

Due to the drawback of conventional therapy for ocular delivery like poor bioavailability of drugs due to tear production, non productive absorption, transient residence time, impermeability of corneal epithelium. These problems can be minimized by the application of niosomal vesicular system as well as combination of drugs provides the additive effect on reduction of IOP. The aim of the presen...

Background To enhance ocular bioavailability, the traditional strategies have focused on prolonging precorneal retention and improving corneal permeability by nano-carriers with positive charge, thiolated polymer, absorption enhancer and so on. Glycylsarcosine (GS) as an active target ligand of the peptide tranpsporter-1 (PepT-1), could specific interact with the PepT-1 on the cornea and guide ...
