endo-derived nitric oxide (no) is synthesized from l-arginine by endothelium nitric oxide synthase (enos). since reduced no synthesis has been implicated in the development of coronary atherosclerosis; we hypothesized that polymorphisms of nos gene might be associated with increased susceptibility to this disorder and coronary artery disease (cad). we studied the 27 base pair tandem repeat poly...
By using polyethylenimine molecules as the linker, l-cysteine was immobilized onto graphene nanosheets, endowing the biocompatible l-cysteine-functionalized graphene film with the ability for catalytic decomposition of exogenous or endogenous donors to generate nitric oxide, and thus inhibiting the platelet activation and aggregation and reducing platelet adhesion.
Kidneys from nondirected donors (NDDs) have historically been allocated directly to the deceased donor wait list (DDWL). Recently, however, NDDs have participated in kidney exchange (KE) procedures, including KE 'chains', which have received considerable media attention. This increasing application of KE chains with NDD participation has occurred with limited ethical analysis and without ethica...
We previously documented the induction of Leishmania amastigote apoptosis by trivalent antimony (SbIII) and nitric oxide (NO). We demonstrate here that SbIII-resistant amastigotes were resistant to NO toxicity when delivered extracellularly by NO donors or intracellularly via macrophage activation. Shared biochemical targets for SbIII and NO resistance in Leishmania are discussed.
Systemic administration of adrenergic agonists and nitric oxide donors is used extensively to determine cardiovascular receptor sensitivity. Conclusions regarding receptor sensitivity in the presence of the baroreflex may be misleading. In 8 normal volunteers, we determined the heart rate and blood pressure changes after incremental bolus doses of isoproterenol, phenylephrine, and sodium nitrop...
background: respiratory distress syndrome and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn are common acquired diseases in preterm infants. in the past several years, randomized controlled trials (rcts) have indicated that inhaled nitric oxide (ino) can potentially lower for both the incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (bpd) and mortality in affected infants. other research has, however...
background: astrocytes are cells within the central nervous system which are activated in a wide spectrum of infections, and autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases.in pathologic states, they produce inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and nitric oxide (no), and sometimes they induce apoptosis.their protease-activated receptors (pars) can be activated by proteases, e.g.thrombin and ...
in the present study, interactions between lead exposure with nitric oxide precursor (l-arginine) or nitric oxide synthase (nos) inhibitor (l-name) on naloxone-induced jumping and diarrhea in morphine-dependent mice were examined. chronic lead acetate (0.05%) exposure altered naloxone-induced jumping and diarrhea in mice. jumping was decreased after 7 days and was unchanged 14 and 28 days after...
