Curcumin is a phytoconstituent with wide range of biological activity. It is poorly soluble in water. In the present study a new dissolution medium was developed, as there is no validated dissolution method available in the literature. The composition of the dissolution medium was selected on the basis of solubility data at 37 degrees . Solubility data revealed that addition of surfactant may b...

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) contains a direct writing assessment, and examinees are given the option of composing their responses at a computer terminal using a keyboard or composing their responses in handwriting. This study sought to determine whether examinees from different demographic groups choose handwriting versus word-processing composition media with equal likeli...

Tarko T., Duda-Chodak A., Kobus M. (2012): Influence of growth medium composition on synthesis of bioactive compounds and antioxidant properties of selected strains of Arthrospira cyanobacteria. Czech J. Food Sci., 30: 258–267. We studied how the selection of the growth medium influences the antioxidant properties and synthesis of bioactive compounds (β-carotene, C-phycocyanin, allophycocyanin,...

Breast carcinomas are complex, three-dimensional tissues composed of cancer epithelial cells and stromal components, including fibroblasts and extracellular matrix. In vitro models that more faithfully recapitulate this dimensionality and stromal microenvironment should more accurately elucidate the processes driving carcinogenesis, tumor progression, and therapeutic response. Herein, novel in ...

Rhodom icrobium vannielii, Lipopolysaccharide, Medium-Dependent Growth Forms, Cell Types The compositions of lipopolysaccharides from the photoheterotrophic budding R hodom i crobium vannielii strains DSM 162, Rm5, E3 and 2/1 are reported. Common constituents of these lipopolysaccharides are glucose, mannose, glucosamine, glucuronic and galacturonic acids, 2-keto-3-deoxyoctonate (KDO) and the ...

The fatty acid composition of animal cells cultured in serum-free medium can be manipulated when the synthesis of endogenous fatty acids is inhibited by a biotin analog and fatty acids are supplied in the medium as detergent esters of Tween. When mouse LM cells were grown in medium supplemented with Tween-19:0 (an ester of Tween and nonadecanoic acid), odd chain fatty acid content of cellular p...

A method for the simultaneous determination of major and minor volatiles composition in different types (dry, medium dry, sweet and medium sweet) of a young Tinta Negra Mole (TNM) monovarietal red wine from 2003 harvest has been validated. Wine samples preparation includes a dichloromethane liquid–liquid extraction followed by concentration under a nitrogen atmosphere. The extracted fraction wa...

Bile acids (BAs) act as signaling molecules in various physiological processes, and are related to colonic microbiota composition as well as to different types of dietary fat and fiber. This study investigated whether guar gum and pectin-two fibers with distinct functional characteristics-affect BA profiles, microbiota composition, and gut metabolites in rats. Low- (LM) or high-methoxylated (HM...

To detect Streptococcus pneumoniae colonization, the nasopharynx is sampled using a swab placed in skim milk-tryptone-glucose-glycerol (STGG) transport medium, and then the swab specimen or STGG medium is cultured or subjected to PCR. We evaluated the effect of swab composition and compared the sensitivities of detection of culture and PCR using swabs and swab-containing medium. Calcium alginat...

SUMMARY The function of serum in the composition of culture media for trypano-somes was investigated with Trypanosoma cruxi. Serum supplies stearic acid, essential for the growth of this trypanosome. A liquid heat-steriliz-able medium, composed of peptone and known chemicals is described. The growth of T. cruxi in this medium reached 70 x lo8 trypanosomes/ml.
