Meningioma is a common tumor of the central nervous system which displays morphological heterogeneity. In order to determine whether this phenotypic variability is associated with distinct or overlapping genetic lesions, we compared genotypes at several loci defined by allele length polymorphism in tumor and normal tissues from patients with meningioma. In particular, we concentrated on loci on...
The expression of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) alleles plays an important role in the development and recurrence of benign and malignant diseases. Association of single HLA alleles or haplotypes with neoplastic processes has been investigated previously, and correlation between HLA and solid tumors, such as head and neck cancers or uterine cervical squamous epithelial lesions, were reported. H...
Radiation therapies are commonly used for malignant or metastatic brain tumors for curative and palliative use. The radiation-induced neurotoxicity includes both parenchymal and vascular damage. Here we report the case of a 43-year-old woman who developed Multiple sclerosis (MS) 9 months after she underwent the last session of radiotherapy for the diagnosed meningioma. Conventional doses of rad...
A patient is described who successfully underwent cerebral hemispherectomy for malignant glioma and whose death nine months later, wrongly ascribed to recurrent malignancy, was in fact due to a subsequently-developing benign meningioma in the remaining hemisphere. The possible advantages of a modification of standard hemispherectomy technique are also discussed.
Among 98 surgically-treated intraaanial meningiomas. 12 (%12.2)patients with atypical and anaplastic meningiomas. are reviewed. All were operated between 1983-1994.Out of 12 patients. 7 (58%)had malignant meningioma and 5 (42%)showed atypical features histopathologicaiiy. Tumours in eight patients were recunences. most in grade 3 resected patients. showing the
April 30, 2015 | ARS 2015 [1] Our study showed that patients with primary malignant meningioma had better outcomes after maximal resection followed by postoperative radiation. In contrast, transformed meningiomas demonstrated more aggressive behavior, with lower median survival despite RT. Further multi-institutional or randomized studies are required to evaluate the effectiveness of postoperat...
A difficult diagnostic problem may be caused by the presence of multiple pulmonary nodules on a chest radiograph. The differential diagnosis includes infection, primary or metastatic tumour (benign or malignant), and the expression of systemic disease such as rheumatoid arthritis and sarcoidosis. This case report describes a patient with multiple lung tumours considered to be due to metastatic ...
background : meningiomas are common benign tumors of the central nervous system. patients with meningiomas achieve postoperative optimal functional recovery, but there is a probability of tumor recurrence months or years after surgical resection. this study aims to evaluate the prevalence of recurrent meningioma and the correlation between tumor recurrence and certain factors. materials and met...
