Zeolites due to their structures can be used as molecular sieves for purification of materials and solutions. Zeolites with PHI and SOD structure are so common and applicable for this purpose. Hydroxy sodalite and phillipsite are the more abundant members of zeolites which display good selectivity for very small molecules and some ions such as Sr, Pb, Zn, Cu and Rb. There is not any pure natura...

A partial composite consisting of rough silicon nanowires and a polymer dielectric layer with sufficient Na(+) ions was used to create a field-effect transistor based memory device. Addition of Na(+) ions helped compensate for water molecule trapped charges leading to narrow hysteresis characteristics and stable memory retention stability of the resulting device.

In the title compound, Na(+)·4C(7)H(5)N(6) (+)·5BF(4) (-), the Na(+) ion lies on a fourfold rotation axis and one of the tetra-fluoridoborate ions lies on a site of symmetry . Each Na(+) ion is surrounded by four symmetry-related tetra-fluoridoborate ions, and is eight-coordinated by F atoms, the Na⋯F separation being 2.3956 (15) or 2.4347 (17) Å. The hexa-azaphenalenium ring system is essentia...

The Na,K-ATPase is an integral membrane protein present in virtually all animal cells, where it actively transports Na + and K + ions across the plasma membrane using ATP as energy source. For every ATP molecule hydrolyzed, the enzyme pumps three Na + ions out of and two K + ions into the cell. Because of its fundamental role in many physiological processes, the Na,K-ATPase is the target of spe...

The presence of negatively charged, impermeant proteins in the plasma space alters the distribution of diffusible ions in the plasma and interstitial fluid (ISF) compartments to preserve electroneutrality. We have derived a new mathematical model to define the quantitative interrelationship between the Gibbs-Donnan equilibrium, the osmolality of body fluid compartments, and the plasma water Na+...

Glutamate/Aspartate transporters cotransport three Na(+) and one H(+) ions with the substrate and countertransport one K(+) ion. The binding sites for the substrate and two Na(+) ions have been observed in the crystal structure of the archeal homolog Glt(Ph), while the binding site for the third Na(+) ion has been proposed from computational studies and confirmed by experiments. Here we perform...

The effect of temperature in the range of 0–150 8C was studied for homoionic montmorillonite clays with Na and Csqq compensating ions in low hydration states. Both static and dynamic information concerning the interlayer ions and water moleculeswas obtained by Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics. Principal structural changes were limited to the water phase, markeddifference was o...

In the title compound, [Na(C₁₁H₁₁ClN₃O₃)(H₂O)](n), there are two independent Na(I) ions, one of which lies on an inversion center and is coordinated in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment. The other Na(I) ion lies on a twofold rotation axis and is cooordinated in a slightly distorted trigonal-bipyramidal coordination environment. In the organic ligand, the imidazolidine ring adopts a h...

In contrast to other P-type ATPases, the Na,K-ATPase binding and release of ions on the cytoplasmic side, to the state called E1, is not electrogenic with the exception of the third Na+. Since the high-resolution structure of the closely related SR Ca-ATPase in state E1 revealed the ion-binding sites deep inside the transmembrane part of the protein, the missing electrogenicity in state E1 can ...

Crystallographic anomalous scattering from potassium at 1.7 A resolution reveals two monovalent ions that interact with MgADP and P(i) in the nucleotide binding cleft of wild-type recombinant bovine Hsc70 ATPase fragment. K+ at site 1 interacts with oxygens of the beta-phosphate of ADP, whereas K+ at site 2 interacts with an oxygen of P(i). Both K+ ions also interact with specific H2O molecules...
