Ageniella Banks, 1912 is a paraphyletic group exclusive to the Nearctic and Neotropical regions. The genus has remarkable morphological diversity among species strong sexual dimorphism, hampering taxonomic studies of it. A simulated annealing algorithm is employed to generate a stochastic model for a Berea sandstone and a Fontainebleau sandstone, with each a prescribed two-point probability function, lineal-path function, and "pore size" distribution function, respectively. We find that the temperature decrease of the annealing has to be rather quick to yield isotropic and percolating configurations. A comparis...

The Nam Pat Group of the Nam Pat Basin, Uttaradit Province, Thailand is situated in the Nan Suture Zone. Two contrasting tectonic framework models of the Nan Suture have previously been proposed: as a main Paleo-Tethyan suture and as a remnant of a closed back-arc basin. The goal of this study is to analyze the tectonic framework of the Nan Suture and reevaluate the existing tectonic models. Th...

A famous and well known Australian inselberg,1 Uluru,2 is an interesting geological feature in that its geomorphology is still a matter of controversy among conventional geologists. Traditionally, Uluru’s stratigraphical history began hundreds of millions of years ago, being fashioned into its current contour only as recently as between 60 million years ago until the present. The process by whi...

Like many other species of petrel, blue petrel (Halobaena caerulea) are able to return to their nest burrows at night in complete darkness. Since petrels have a well-developed olfactory system, we carried out an experiment to test whether blue petrels use olfaction to localise their nest burrows. Incubating birds were injected intranasally with a zinc sulphate solution, which reversibly impairs...

A new species of Burttia Dirsh, B. caerulea sp. nov., is described from the Nguru Mountains Tanzania. It second in genus, both being restricted to Tanzanian localities. Both sylvatica , known only Uluguru Mountains, and nov. are morphologically very similar habitus outer morphology, suggesting a recent speciation.
