Skilled manipulation requires the ability to predict the weights of viewed objects based on learned associations linking object weight to object visual appearance. However, the neural mechanisms involved in extracting weight information from viewed object properties are unknown. Given that ventral visual pathway areas represent a wide variety of object features, one intriguing but as yet untest...

In this paper we develop a new approach to the study of uncountable fundamental groups by using Hurewicz fibrations with unique path-lifting property ( lifting spaces for short) as replacement covering spaces. particular, consider inverse limit sequence X . It is known that path-connectivity can be expressed means derived functor lim ← 1 , which is, however, notoriously difficult compute when g...

In this paper, we show that every element of a discrete module is a sum of two units if and only if its endomorphism ring has no factor ring isomorphic to $Z_{2}$. We also characterize unit sum number equal to two for the endomorphism ring of quasi-discrete modules with finite exchange property.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate how lifting capacity and subjective preferences are affected by different lifting speeds. The maximum lifting capacity of lift was determined with three independent variables, lifting speed, lifting technique, and lifting height. Questionnaires were evaluated after the experiment by the participants for the lifting speed preferences. This study foun...

We exhibit a locally biholomorphic mapping with simply connected image, which fails to be a topological covering. Introduction In [1], A.F.Beardon shows an example of a ’covering surface’ over the unit disc D ⊂ C, which is not a topological covering. We recall that a ’covering surface’ of a regionD ⊂ C, is a Riemann surface S admitting surjective conformal mapping onto D, whereas a continuous m...

Automating the lunch box packaging is a challenging task due to the high deformability and large individual differences in shape and physical property of food materials. Soft robotic grippers showed potentials to perform such tasks. In this paper, we presented four pneumatic soft actuators made of different materials and different fabrication methods and compared their performances through a se...

Purpose: Low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders, and lifting is one of its risk factors. The activities of lumbar muscles as the main muscles involved in lifting are important with regard to identification of the allowable limits and the injury mechanisms as well as the motor control aspects. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the lifting speed on the lumb...

In its original form, the wavelet transform is a linear tool. However, it has been increasingly recognized that nonlinear extensions are possible. A major impulse to the development of nonlinear wavelet transforms has been given by the introduction of the lifting scheme by Sweldens. The aim of this report, which is a sequel to a previous report devoted exclusively to the pyramid transform, is t...

When repetitively lifting an object with randomly varying mechanical properties, the fingertip forces reflect the previous lift. We examined the specificity of this "sensorimotor memory" by observing the effects of an isolated pinch on the subsequent lift of a known object. In this case, the pinch force was unrelated to the fingertip forces necessary to grip the object efficiently. The peak gri...
